About the opportunity
Our client, an established manufacturer of industrial and material handling equipment, is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to join its multi-disciplinary team. Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will be the go-to engineering resource for Production, handling tooling, fixtures, process definition, shop-floor troubleshooting, and product-related manufacturing issues. You will work closely with Production, Product Development, and R&D to design practical, creative industrial solutions, and you will also support Sales, Procurement, and Finance.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and jigs that improve safety, quality, and productivity
• Provide shop-floor engineering support and troubleshoot issues in fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, automation, pneumatics, and hydraulics
• Apply DFM/DFA and Lean principles to improve manufacturability and throughput
• Create process documentation, including SOPs and work instructions
• Define and set up new manufacturing lines using Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban, Six Sigma, and value stream mapping
• Identify new tooling and capital equipment needs and support facility and layout improvements
• Collect and analyze production data at the cell and workstation level, measure performance, and report findings
• Participate in cross-functional DFMEA/PFMEA and control plans, and evaluate process control performance after implementation
• Drive the assembly and proving of development and pre-production units, capturing lessons learned for the final product
• Support R&D prototyping, pilot builds, and first article manufacturing with Product Development Engineering
• Manage and drive design changes to improve manufacturability
• Coordinate engineering changes and releases to production
• Assist with quoting special products, equipment, and parts, and with defining product cost targets from initial concept
• Follow all health and safety requirements, including PPE use, hazard reporting, and required safety training

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD, such as SolidWorks
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and qualification requirements
• Knowledge of quality control techniques and metrology
• Ability to analyze data and produce clear reports
• Experience with electronic document management systems, including setup, processes, and reporting
• Strong attention to detail and consistently accurate work
• Ability to manage multiple urgent tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Strong computer skills, including advanced MS Office
• Excellent English verbal and written communication at all levels
• Logical approach to problem solving

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technology Sciences, or equivalent (required)

Assets

• 3 to 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience
• Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP)
• AutoCAD experience
• Experience with Epicor ERP, SolidWorks PDM, or equivalent systems
• Strong understanding of steel and metal fabrication and welding, with working knowledge of pneumatics or hydraulics
• Professional accreditation in Lean manufacturing or a related field
