Description
New Hanover County's Health Department is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider with credentials as either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the clinic team. This position provides professional care to patients across a variety of clinic services, including Women's Preventive Health, Child Health, Family Planning, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) evaluation and treatment for women and men.
What You'll Do- Provide family planning and sexually transmitted infection evaluation, treatment, and counseling.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients, including prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and documenting care.
- Develop and manage treatment plans, provide patient education, and maintain accurate medical records.
- Perform IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removal
- Coordinate care with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in required training programs and educational activities
- Provides consultation and continued assessment of patient referred by expanded role nurses (ERNs), when requested
- Functions independently in a variety of clinical services, and consults with supervising physician for management of complex cases
- Supervising physician and APP collaboration will be conducted in accordance with current North Carolina laws and regulations
- Respond to emergency and disaster situations and perform other duties within the scope of the position.

Hours:
Work schedule alternates weekly. Week 1: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Week 2: M, W, TH - 8am-5pm, Friday - 8am-2pm
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
Salary Information:,
The target hiring range for this position is $79,721 - $107,258. The full salary range for an incumbent hired into this position is $79,721 - $134,795. Starting salary will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and budget. Candidates with exceptional qualifications and experience may be considered for a starting salary above the target hiring range, but not to exceed the maximum of the salary range.

Master’s Degree from an approved Nurse Practitioner program or an approved Physician Assistant Program and two (2) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
What will make your application stand out:
Ideal candidate will have experience working in a public health clinic or primary care clinic managing reproductive health and sexual health with two years of experience as an APP.
- Valid North Carolina Driver License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
- Eligible to practice in North Carolina as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association.
In compliance with G.S. 153A-94.2(b), if this position requires an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity, the county must require the applicant to undergo a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI for all offers of employment made after October 1, 2025. These checks must be performed in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26, which authorizes the SBI to provide fingerprint-based state and national criminal record checks to cities and counties.
