Job Summary

The Rating Analyst supports the underwriting process by analyzing broker-submitted bid specifications and existing plan designs to determine appropriate product options and pricing. This role applies sound business and underwriting judgment to evaluate routine insurance risks, calculate rates, and release binding proposals for basic cases. The Rating Analyst partners with underwriters on complex cases, contributes to key projects and business initiatives, and delivers responsive service through effective collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate broker-submitted specifications and existing plan designs to identify requested products, plan structures, and coverage options.

  • Apply underwriting guidelines and business judgment to determine appropriate plan designs, product options, census formatting, and calculated rates.

  • Prepare and release binding proposals for routine insurance risks in accordance with established business rules and underwriting authority.

  • Provide underwriting and rating support for large and complex cases, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company standards.

  • Collaborate with sales, service, and home office teams to deliver responsive customer service, resolve issues, and support strategic projects and business objectives.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

Education: Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience: 2 years of experience applying critical thinking, analytical evaluation, and decision-making experience.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to interpret information and identify solutions.

  • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations, including basic algebraic formulas.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

  • Ability to apply underwriting guidelines, contract provisions, and applicable insurance regulations.

  • Experience in insurance, underwriting, rating, benefits administration, or a related analytical role; ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

The actual compensation for this role will be based on a combination of education and experience, knowledge and skills, position budget, internal equity, and market data.

Salary Range:

23.56 - 31.49
