Responsibilities

Associate DevOps Engineer

REI Systems is seeking an Associate DevOps Engineer to support the implementation, automation, and operation of enterprise cloud environments and software delivery platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to build hands-on experience with modern DevOps technologies while supporting mission-critical federal applications.

The Associate DevOps Engineer will work alongside experienced DevOps, software engineering, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to support CI/CD pipelines, AWS cloud environments, containerized applications, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, and production operations.

The ideal candidate has foundational hands-on experience with AWS, CI/CD, Kubernetes or Docker, scripting, Linux, Infrastructure as Code, and application support and is interested in developing deeper DevOps and cloud engineering expertise.

DevOps Engineering & Automation

• Support the development, maintenance, and improvement of CI/CD pipelines and software delivery tools.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) used to provision and manage cloud environments.
• Support the deployment and operation of containerized applications and microservices using technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, AWS EKS, and/or OpenShift.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, Groovy, or similar scripting languages.
• Assist with application and microservice deployments across development, test, staging, and production environments.
• Work with software development and DevOps engineers to troubleshoot application, configuration, deployment, and infrastructure issues.
• Follow established DevOps standards, processes, and security practices.
• Learn and apply emerging cloud, DevOps, and automation technologies.

Production Operations & Reliability

• Support the availability, reliability, and performance of production and non-production environments.
• Assist with incident, problem, and change management activities.
• Monitor applications, infrastructure, servers, networks, and cloud services and escalate issues when appropriate.
• Assist with operating system patching, security remediation, vulnerability management, and environment upgrades.
• Support monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability tools.
• Analyze logs and monitoring data to assist with troubleshooting application and infrastructure issues.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as required, with support from senior engineering team members.
• Assist with maintaining operational documentation, procedures, dashboards, and system health metrics.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of relevant DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or IT infrastructure experience.
• Foundational understanding of CI/CD concepts and software deployment pipelines.
• Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EKS, and/or OpenShift.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, RDS, and/or EKS.
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Experience or coursework involving scripting using Bash, Python, Groovy, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with Linux environments and command-line tools.
• Understanding of source code and version control systems such as Git.
• Exposure to monitoring and logging technologies such as AWS CloudWatch, New Relic, Splunk, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to Java and/or Node.js web applications, including technologies such as Spring Boot and React, is a plus.
• Basic understanding of networking, application infrastructure, and troubleshooting concepts.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and develop DevOps and cloud engineering skills.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

Clearance: Candidate must be a US Citizen to support this federal project and able to obtain and maintain a Clearance.

Location: Hybrid (2 Day per week in our Sterling, VA HQ)
