About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Operations Accountant to join our Finance team in Prestons on a fixed-term maternity leave contract through to 31 August 2027. Reporting to the Finance Manager - Operations, you will play a key role in delivering accurate accounting, reporting, invoicing, reconciliations, and financial analysis to support our logistics and distribution operations. Working closely with Finance, Operations and Sales teams, you'll ensure financial accuracy across customer contracts, inventory management, labour reporting, and month-end processes while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Perform month-end accounting activities, including general ledger reconciliations, inventory adjustments, revenue accruals and journal preparation.
Maintain and administer non-trade and sundry vendor activities and support month-end accrual processes.
Assist with warehouse expense reporting and freight reconciliations across multiple lines of business.
Operations Finance & Business Support
Prepare billing calculations and invoicing for 3PL customers.
Reconcile labour timesheets, perform cost allocations, and maintain reporting dashboards for permanent and casual workforce activities.
Manage daily sales transaction reconciliations, inventory reconciliations and adjustments for key customer accounts.
Support KPI reporting and conduct profitability analysis for 3PL customers.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
Partner closely with Finance, Operations and Sales teams to support business objectives and customer requirements.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve finance processes and reporting.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and support audit and compliance activities as required.
About You
Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or a related business discipline.
Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
Advanced Excel skills, including experience reconciling and analysing large data sets.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
A proactive mindset and willingness to identify process improvement opportunities.
Full working rights and no requirement for visa sponsorship.
Desirable Experience
Experience working within supply chain, logistics, warehousing or distribution environments.
Experience using Tier 1 ERP systems, ideally JD Edwards (JDE).
Experience developing reporting dashboards using Power BI or similar tools.
CA, CPA or CIMA qualified, or currently working towards completion.
