POSITION SUMMARY:
DuBois Chemicals is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Applications Engineer to support customer opportunities through equipment specification, system design, and project execution. This role plays a key part in evaluating customer processes, developing engineered equipment solutions, and supporting the successful implementation of systems from concept through startup.
The Applications Engineer will collaborate closely with Commercial, Engineering, and Operations teams to deliver technically sound, scalable, and customer-focused solutions. Depending on experience level, this role may range from supporting system design and field execution to independently managing portions of customer projects and equipment scope.
At all times, the Applications Engineer must follow the safety regulations of both DuBois and the customer. This role is expected to demonstrate the company’s core competencies of communication, customer focus, innovation, integrity & ethics, lean & safety, and passion to succeed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Support or conduct on-site evaluations to assess customer processes, equipment needs, and operational requirements
Assist in the development and specification of equipment systems and supporting infrastructure
Partner with Commercial teams to support technical aspects of customer opportunities and solution development
Contribute to system layouts, configurations, and engineering documentation
Support or manage equipment-related project scope, including timelines and deliverables
Coordinate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Field teams to support project execution
Assist with installation, configuration, and startup of equipment systems at customer sites
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues using standard diagnostic approaches
Provide technical support and training to customers and internal teams on equipment operation and maintenance
Support systems including water treatment, stage washers, lube systems, and chemical application equipment
Adhere to all safety standards and procedures when working with equipment and at customer locations
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment design, documentation, and execution
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or related field
0–2 years of relevant engineering, internship, or co-op experience
Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
Foundational troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Exposure to CAD or 2D drawing tools (AutoCAD preferred)
Basic understanding of industrial controls or PLC systems is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
High achievement orientation and willingness to learn
Ability to travel up to 50–60%, including overnight travel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
3–5 years of experience in equipment applications, system design, or technical customer support role
Familiarity with water treatment, stage washers, lube systems, or chemical feed systems
Experience with equipment installation, startup, or field service activities
Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar design software
Exposure to cross-functional collaboration with Commercial and Engineering teams
Project management training or certification is a plus
