Field Application Scientist (US)

About the role

As our Field Application Scientist (FAS), you'll be the first scientist customers meet when they discover Amperia, our benchtop instrument that quantifies proteins and viral vectors directly from crude samples in minutes. You'll understand their workflows, run hands-on demonstrations, and give them the confidence to adopt Amperia. You'll report to the CEO and be our first US hire, working closely with our Sales, R&D, and Engineering teams in the UK. Success in your first year means building and executing a pipeline of demos that turn into sales.

What you'll do

• Own the technical sales process for Amperia, from first call to adoption.

• Run discovery calls with prospective customers to understand their workflows and quantification challenges.

• Translate customer requirements into targeted demo proposals that show where Amperia fits their process.

• Plan and deliver hands-on instrument demonstrations at customer sites across the US and Canada.

• Transport, set up, and run Amperia on site, running experiments independently and to time.

• Partner with the Sales team through the full sales cycle, including networking and follow-up.

• Represent Abselion at scientific conferences, mainly in the US and Canada.

• Act as the voice of the customer internally, feeding structured feedback to our Science, Product, Sales, and Marketing teams.

• Help build our US field applications function from the ground up.

• Travel to the UK periodically for training and collaboration with the wider team.

What we're looking for

Required

• An M.S. in a relevant field with 3+ years of experience as a Field Application Scientist, or a Ph.D. in a relevant field with 1+ year of experience as a Field Application Scientist

• Hands-on bench experience in antibody development, protein expression, cell line development, or process development.

• In-depth practical experience with protein quantification methods such as ELISA, BLI, SPR, or SEC-HPLC.

• Excellent pipetting technique and confidence running experiments independently under time pressure.

• Clear, confident communication and presentation skills with scientific audiences.

• Based in the Greater Boston area.

• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship, now or in the future. All applicants authorized to work in the United States will be considered without regard to citizenship or immigration status.

Essential functions of this role include

• Travel up to 75% of the time, mainly within the US and Canada, with periodic trips to the UK.

• Driving to customer sites in the Boston area, with a valid driver's license and access to a car. Mileage is reimbursed.

• Lifting, transporting, and setting up equipment weighing up to 44 lb, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Regular calls with our UK team, typically 9–11am Eastern time.

Preferred

• Experience with mAb development and biologics analytics.

• Experience supporting instrument sales into biopharma process development teams.

• An existing network in the Boston/Cambridge biotech community.

• Experience working with a CRM.

Compensation and benefits

• $100,000–$150,000 base salary, depending on experience.

Interview process

Our process has three stages.

1. An introductory video call.
2. A technical video call.
3. An on-site technical interview at our lab in Cambridge, MA, including a practical component.
