Field Application Scientist – Bioprocessing
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and technically skilled Field Application Scientist (FAS) – Bioprocessing to join our team in South Korea.
As a Field Application Scientist, you will serve as a trusted scientific and technical partner to our customers, providing application expertise across bioprocessing and filtration technologies. You will work closely with customers to understand their processes and technical challenges, develop fit-for-purpose solutions, and support successful evaluation and implementation of our technologies.
Working in close partnership with the Sales team, you will provide the technical and scientific expertise required throughout the customer engagement process, while Sales maintains ownership of the commercial relationship and sales process. Through strong application knowledge and customer engagement, you will help differentiate our solutions, uncover technical opportunities, and contribute to sustainable business growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site scientific and technical consultation to customers, with a primary focus on bioprocessing and filtration applications.
- Develop a strong understanding of customer processes, workflows, and technical challenges and recommend appropriate solutions based on application and process requirements.
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert during customer engagements, supporting the Sales team with scientific, application, and process expertise.
- Deliver technical seminars, presentations, product demonstrations, and training sessions to customers, sharing application expertise and industry best practices.
- Provide technical consultation and troubleshooting to resolve customer application challenges and support successful implementation of solutions.
- Design, plan, and conduct laboratory experiments, application studies, and filter evaluations to support customer projects, product evaluations, and technical investigations.
- Analyze experimental data and translate technical findings into clear, practical recommendations for customers.
- Support customer product evaluations and technical decision-making by developing appropriate evaluation approaches, success criteria, and technical recommendations.
- Identify application opportunities and unmet technical needs within customer processes and collaborate with Sales to develop appropriate customer solutions.
- Build and maintain trusted technical relationships with scientists, engineers, process development teams, manufacturing teams, and other technical stakeholders at customer organizations.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional and global teams to communicate customer requirements, technical feedback, and emerging market and application needs.
- Capture and share application knowledge, customer insights, and best practices to strengthen organizational technical capabilities and customer support.
Collaboration with Sales
The Field Application Scientist and Sales teams work as close partners with distinct but complementary responsibilities.
The FAS owns the scientific and technical engagement, including understanding customer process requirements, technical consultation, application development, product evaluation, troubleshooting, and technical recommendations.
The Sales team owns the commercial engagement, including account strategy, opportunity management, pricing, quotation, negotiation, forecasting, and commercial closure.
Together, FAS and Sales develop customer solutions that combine strong technical value with commercial execution, helping customers achieve successful outcomes while supporting sustainable business growth.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Life Sciences, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in bioprocessing, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, filtration, process development, or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of bioprocessing workflows and principles, preferably including clarification, sterile filtration, or related upstream/downstream filtration applications.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with the ability to independently plan, execute, analyze, and document experiments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand customer processes and translate technical challenges into practical solutions.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate scientific and technical information to different customer audiences.
- Strong customer-facing mindset and demonstrated ability to establish credibility and build trusted technical relationships.
- Ability to work independently in the field while effectively collaborating with Sales, regional/global technical teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Korean.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with or supporting biopharmaceutical manufacturers, CDMOs, or other customers within the bioprocessing industry.
- Experience conducting customer-facing technical presentations, application studies, product evaluations, or troubleshooting activities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with commercial teams while maintaining ownership of scientific and technical activities.
