Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Assistant Director of Community Programs will be responsible for assisting with the coordination and supervision of community programming, including the Vocational Preparation Program, Youth Social Skills, Camp Kinney, Sports and Recreation, and any additional programs added by the department. Additionally, this position will assist the Director of Community Programs with strategic planning and implementation of innovative programming throughout the center. Responsibilities also include crisis management, supervision of undergraduate and graduate staff and development and execution of Kinney Center programs. This individual will help support events on campus and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in learning about autism-specific training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with management and oversight of community programs on a day to day basis and participate in the execution and planning of these programs. 
  • Assist with facilitation of community programs, including but not limited to Youth Social Skills, Camp Kinney, Vocational Bridge, Sports and Recreation, and Adult Recreation, to ensure participants are obtaining appropriate functional daily living and social skills.
  • Train and supervise undergraduate student workers (SCHOLARS) and graduate assistants.  
  • In collaboration with other members of the Programs Team, monitor the quality of student training information and execution, regularly evaluating and enhancing training. 
  • Assist with the review of program applicants and the acceptance/orientation process. Determine appropriate placement of participants in programs. 
  • Serve as a resource and communicate regularly with participants, families, and assigned SCHOLARS throughout programs. 
  • Set up individualized programs for participants of a variety of age ranges and ability levels. 
  • Manage data collection systems to evaluate participant’s progress and maintain participant files in line with state regulations. 
  • Develop, monitor, and organize progress summaries and data collection for each individual participant based on data collected throughout the program; provide information to families at the conclusion of each program.
  • Assist in the planning and operation of Camp Kinney, including meeting with caregivers, developing curriculum, monitoring goal writing and data collection, assisting with registration, and other tasks as assigned.  
  • Supervise and conduct formal and informal assessments and recommend appropriate behavioral interventions as needed.
  • Utilize crisis management/ deescalation strategies and serves as a resource for navigating difficult situations surrounding program participants. 
  • All other duties as assigned 

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend information sessions and conferences on behalf of the Kinney Center as they relate to clinical services, programs, and training 
  • Serves as a resource to families requiring support with their children with autism 
  • Act as a liaison with the team to coordinate projects and answer questions for external partners
  • Remain current on best practices, important research, and new laws and procedures in the field of  autism. 

Minimum Qualifications: (Education/Training and Experience)

Required

  • An earned Master’s degree in a related social science field (Psychology,  Education, Health Services) with an active BCBA Certification in good standing. If no active certification, must obtain BCBA certification within six months of  hire.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with autism and extensive knowledge in all aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorders and how the symptoms and issues impact families and friends, the community, schools, service  providers, those who pay for services, and autism policy makers. 
  • Ability to function independently, be a creative thinker, and demonstrate strong compassion and support for those with autism and their families.
  • Effective, efficient, and timely oral and written communication.
  • Experience in data collection, organization, and record keeping.
  • Possess strong listening and analytic skills as well as effective problem solving and information gathering skills. 
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management, interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Proficient with computer skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification
  • Approved supervisor training through the BACB.
  • Experience with compliance record keeping and organization.
  • Experience in Higher Education setting

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Some evenings and weekends are involved.

Pay Transparency:

The estimated pay range for this position is $58,100-$62,000 annually. Offered salary will be commensurate with work experience and educational background.
