Description
Your Opportunity
At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).
As a Software Engineer, you’ll help build reliable, scalable technology solutions that support meaningful outcomes for Schwab clients, employees, and business partners. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, making thoughtful technical decisions, and using modern development practices to deliver high-quality software. You’ll collaborate with product, engineering, and cross-functional partners to design, build, test, and improve well-scoped features while contributing to team discussions that shape practical, maintainable solutions. Success in this role will require curiosity, adaptability, strong ownership, and the ability to use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery.
CCAT is a key tower in Schwab Broker-Dealer Service Engineering. We build the Schwab Customer Identifier (SCID) — the unified identity layer that resolves the same client across Schwab affiliates and powers a true 360° view of every customer across all lines of business. As an Engineer on CCAT, you'll build and ship features that touch every Schwab client.
We're specifically seeking engineers shaped by product-engineering environments — product companies or in-house engineering orgs — where you owned what you built, not just delivered against a ticket. The bar at CCAT is high ownership and accountability: you treat the product as yours, you stay with what you ship, and you're measured by the outcome — not by the handoff.
What you have
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot and/or Claude Code within IDE-based development workflows.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools for code generation, test creation, troubleshooting, and productivity improvements while maintaining ownership of code quality, accuracy, and outcomes.
- 4+ years of experience developing applications using Java, Spring Framework, and RESTful web services.
- 2+ years of experience working with distributed and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Yugabyte.
- 2+ years of experience with source control and continuous build tools, including Bitbucket, Git, and Bamboo.
- 2+ years of experience developing and deploying cloud-based applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments using tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

- Proven ability to reliably deliver committed work, proactively identify risks, and communicate blockers early.
Preferred qualifications
- 1+ year of experience building event-driven applications using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging technologies.
- 1+ year of experience developing real-time data processing or streaming applications.
- Experience with batch processing frameworks and data pipeline technologies such as Spring Batch or PySpark.
- Demonstrated experience owning features from design through deployment and ongoing support in a product-oriented engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of software quality practices, including automated testing, code reviews, and continuous improvement.
In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
