SUMMARY

The Plant Manager directs and manages all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality, P&L and other production-related activities. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in receiving, handling, processing, and shipping of metals in the Metal Processing Center by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

• Provides overall supervision of the receiving, processing, inventory, and shipping of materials to provide production to meet company objectives and customer needs.
• Investigates customer and branch complaints promptly and makes every attempt to correct.
• Establishes and monitors overall plant performance for production and quality standards while maintaining strict process controls.
• Develops, implements, and monitors a preventative maintenance schedule on all processing equipment, forklifts, vehicles, other necessary equipment, and building and grounds.
• Analyzes production data to identify bottlenecks and implement lean manufacturing or process improvements to reduce waste and optimize efficiency.
• Manage plant budgets, including labor, materials, and inventory costs. Control and minimize labor and overtime.
• Schedules outside resources to make necessary repairs.
• Ability to translate policies into daily routine operations.
• Ensures compliance with all company safety practices and procedures and OSHA compliance. Leads monthly safety meetings. Promotes safety awareness at all times.
• Must be able to work with all levels of the organization – both internal and external customers.
• Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality or efficiency.
• Must demonstrate strong business acumen as well as a full understanding of the implications of business level decisions. Must be able to communicate all aspects of decisions to senior management.
• Inspects work in progress and finished products.
• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products.
• Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. 
• Ensures a clean, neat, organized, environmentally sound and safe work culture.
• Performs cycle counts to include verifying all lot numbers. Investigates any variances.
• Provides production support as required to the other Metal Processing Center(s).
• Serves as backup to Production Coordinator as well as the Shipping Coordinator and/or Shift Supervisor.  
• Orders and maintains all supplies associated with the running of the Metal Processing Center.
• Readily available to be on-call.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Metal Processing Center. Required to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; 3-5 years related plant management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four-year technical or manufacturing process degree is preferred. Steel metal industry experience is preferred.  

CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

None required.

• Some project management experience preferred.
• Ability to build relationships as a leader and as a team member.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment with shifting priorities while staying organized and detailed oriented. 
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook.
• Must exercise continuous leadership to focus plant efforts on priorities.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most duties are performed from a seated position. There is potential for eye strain from reading detailed materials and looking at a computer screen. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboards at a moderate skill level. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.  

TRAVEL

If travel is requested, a valid government driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, as determined by company standards and insurer requirements, are required. All vehicles operated for Company purposes must be legally registered with appropriate government authorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The warehouse space is not climate controlled.
