Description
About Yousician
Yousician builds apps that teach the world to play music: Yousician (guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, singing) and GuitarTuna.
Why this role exists
The Yousician App is our flagship product at an inflection point. You will take over an established product and an experienced, capable team, and you'll be expected to form your own evidence-based view of what's working and what isn't, then act on it. This is a high-autonomy mandate, reporting directly to the CPO, with real authority over scope, priorities, process, and how the team operates. We're looking for someone energized by taking over something mid-flight and changing its trajectory, not by inheriting a roadmap and keeping it warm.
What you will own
- Diagnosis before strategy. In your first 90 days, build your own picture of the product, the funnel, the experiment record, and the team's ways of working (from data and firsthand observation, not the previous plan) and present the CPO a clear assessment with decisions attached.
- The operating system of the team. Turn strategy into staffed, dated, owned commitments. Every initiative has a DRI, a decision date, a success metric, and explicit kill criteria. What isn't resourced gets cut from the plan visibly, not left to drift.
- Ruthless prioritization. Fewer, bigger bets tied to measurable in-quarter outcomes. You will be judged on what you decide to stop as much as on what you ship.
- An experimentation program with decision discipline. Every material bet has a measurement vehicle before it's built; every readout produces a decision (roll out, iterate, or kill) on a date, not "when we get to it."
- KPIs that connect to money. Set and track success metrics that ladder to conversion, retention, and revenue, and be honest about which proxy metrics don't.
- The team's bar. Raise expectations on ownership and follow-through; coach people to meet them; make the hard calls on process, scope, and team composition when coaching isn't enough.
- The seams. Manage crisp boundaries and joint commitments with Monetization, CRM, Content, and Engineering so cross-team work has one accountable owner, not two spectators.
- Advocate for the user in every decision: accessibility, usability, and joy remain at the heart of the product.
What you have done
- 5+ years in product management for consumer subscription apps at scale, including at least once taking over an existing product and team (not only founding or 0-to-1 work) and demonstrably changing its trajectory, with numbers you can walk us through.
- Made hard calls and owned them: killed live projects, re-scoped quarters mid-flight, restructured how a team works, and can articulate what it cost and what it returned.
- Built or rebuilt an experimentation practice: hypothesis quality, statistical literacy, and a track record of acting on negative results quickly.
- Strong analytical skills: comfortable pulling your own data, auditing a funnel, and challenging a dashboard before trusting it.
- Deep understanding of user-centric design, usability, and growth strategy for app platforms.
Strong signals
- Music: you play, at any level. You understand why learning an instrument is hard and worth it.
- Experience in turnaround, transformation, or post-reorg situations (as a PM, interim lead, or operator).
- Subscription and monetization strategy for direct-to-consumer products.
- SEO/ASO and organic growth for consumer apps.
- Excellent communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders; fluency in English.
What this role is not
- Not a caretaker role. You inherit a plan; you are expected to challenge it, not execute it on faith.
- Not a consensus-first role: you'll gather input widely and decide alone, including decisions that won't be popular.
- Not purely strategic: you set vision and run the weekly machinery that makes it real.
- Not siloed: daily collaboration across engineering, design, data science, and marketing.
Practicalities
- Compensation: competitive, based on experience and location.
- Start: as soon as possible.
