Description
Assists in coordinating and supervising the activities of the Solicitor’s Office and coordinating office resources in order to ensure the prosecution of cases in a proper, efficient and orderly manner.
Supervises subordinate support staff as assigned. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; acting on employee problems. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.
Interprets and implements complex legal issues within office policy and the doctrine of legal ethics.
Reviews criminal incident reports from all law enforcement agencies that operate in Richland County.
Prepares and tries criminal cases; prepares indictments; conducts pre-trial conferences; negotiates with attorneys; diagnoses cases and determines best case strategies; conducts preliminary hearings; participates in case investigation, including crime scene investigation, interviewing witnesses and victims, and examining evidence; researches legal issues affecting cases; applies the law to facts of a criminal case; determines sentence desired; evaluates and prepares witnesses for trial; selects juries, etc.
Prepares bench warrants, affidavits, search warrants, legal briefs, motions, orders, petitions, subpoenas, court dockets, indictments, guilty plea sheets, agreements, and other legal documents.
