About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Imaging Operations Executive Director to provide executive leadership for an outpatient imaging organization in the greater Hartford, Connecticut area.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a healthcare executive who combines strategic vision with strong operational leadership and understands the unique dynamics of working with radiologists, physicians, clinical teams, patients, payers, and healthcare partners. The Executive Director will work closely with physician partners to shape the organization's future while ensuring excellence in daily operations, clinical quality, patient experience, employee engagement, and financial performance.
The successful candidate will be a visible and collaborative leader who can build strong relationships, identify opportunities for growth, lead organizational change, and translate strategy into measurable results. This individual will serve as a key representative of the organization within the broader healthcare community and will play an important role in expanding services, strengthening partnerships, and positioning the practice for continued success.
The Imaging Operations Executive Director is responsible for the overall success and performance of the organization, including its long-term strategic direction and day-to-day operations. Working in close partnership with physician leaders, this position provides executive oversight of operational, financial, clinical, regulatory, technological, and organizational functions.
The Executive Director will lead efforts to optimize imaging operations, improve patient access and satisfaction, maintain the highest standards of clinical quality and regulatory compliance, develop new business opportunities, and ensure the organization achieves its strategic and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Develop and execute short- and long-term strategic plans in partnership with physician leadership.
- Identify opportunities for growth, service-line expansion, new imaging modalities, partnerships, and additional outpatient locations.
- Lead business development initiatives with referring physicians, health systems, employers, payers, and other healthcare partners.
- Monitor healthcare industry trends, regulatory developments, competitive conditions, and emerging opportunities.
- Build effective coalitions and foster a collaborative, team-oriented culture.
- Lead organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
Imaging Operations
- Provide executive oversight of day-to-day imaging operations, which may include MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography, X-ray, DEXA, PET/CT, and interventional radiology.
- Optimize scheduling, patient throughput, staffing, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.
- Establish and monitor operational performance metrics and accountability measures.
- Identify and implement best practices that improve patient access, workflow, productivity, and patient satisfaction.
- Ensure consistent operational standards across locations and service lines.
Clinical Quality, Compliance & Patient Safety
- Provide leadership and oversight for clinical quality, patient safety, risk management, infection prevention, and radiation safety programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state requirements and accreditation standards, including ACR, CMS, Connecticut Department of Public Health, OSHA, HIPAA, and MQSA.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor regulatory and accreditation requirements and proactively address organizational risks.
Physician & Stakeholder Relations
- Develop strong, collaborative relationships with physician shareholders, employed physicians, medical staff, physician managers, and other clinical leaders.
- Meet regularly with physician leadership to understand needs, address concerns, and align operational priorities with organizational strategy.
- Develop and maintain relationships with referring providers and healthcare organizations to support business development.
- Serve as a trusted partner and advisor to physician leadership.
People & Organizational Leadership
- Provide executive-level leadership and direction to supervisors, managers, and staff.
- Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
- Develop leaders and create opportunities for employee growth and professional development.
- Promote a positive workplace culture characterized by teamwork, trust, accountability, and high performance.
- Oversee HR-related functions, policies, and organizational practices in partnership with Human Resources.
- Effectively manage conflict and facilitate productive resolution of organizational and interpersonal issues.
- Communicate effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
Financial & Business Management
- Provide executive oversight of financial performance, fiscal strategy, budgeting, and resource utilization.
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget and monitor performance against financial objectives.
- Oversee revenue cycle performance, reimbursement, account resolution, documentation optimization, and revenue improvement initiatives.
- Manage and support payer contracting and reimbursement strategies.
- Evaluate service-line profitability and financial performance against appropriate industry and peer benchmarks.
- Ensure appropriate internal financial controls and fiscal policies are maintained.
- Develop and evaluate alternative and risk-based contracting opportunities.
Technology & Information Systems
- Partner with IT and operational leaders to optimize PACS, RIS, EMR, AI solutions, and other imaging technologies.
- Support implementation of new technologies and systems designed to improve clinical and operational performance.
- Ensure data integrity, cybersecurity compliance, and effective system utilization.
- Evaluate technology opportunities that support organizational growth and patient care.
Corporate Leadership & Governance
• Serve as a primary ambassador and representative of the organization with patients, physicians, employees, healthcare organizations, payers, government agencies, and community partners.
• Oversee corporate compliance and adherence to organizational policies, bylaws, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Support corporate governance activities, annual meetings, business agreements, and corporate records.
• Support physician recruitment and physician employment contract processes.
• Maintain relationships with professional radiology and healthcare organizations and participate in the broader healthcare community.
• Provide ongoing leadership and support for organizational priorities and initiatives.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of progressive management or executive leadership experience within a specialty or multi-specialty medical practice, imaging organization, hospital, health system, or comparable healthcare organization.
- Demonstrated experience providing operational leadership for a complex healthcare organization or multi-site practice.
- Direct experience with diagnostic imaging operations and an understanding of imaging workflows, services, and clinical operations.
- Demonstrated experience working closely with physicians, physician leaders, medical staff, and other healthcare stakeholders.
- Experience with healthcare financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, revenue cycle management, payer relationships, and/or reimbursement.
- Experience with healthcare regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans and translate organizational objectives into measurable results.
- Strong business development, relationship management, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, build effective teams, resolve conflict, and establish accountability.
- Ability to effectively represent the organization with internal and external stakeholders and within the broader healthcare community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Management, or a related field.
- Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) or similar professional certification.
- Experience leading a physician-owned or physician-partnered medical practice.
- Experience overseeing multiple imaging locations and/or a broad range of imaging modalities.
- Experience with payer contracting, risk-based arrangements, or alternative reimbursement models.
- Experience with practice growth, acquisitions, new site development, or service-line expansion.
- Familiarity with PACS, RIS, EMR, AI-enabled imaging solutions, and healthcare technology initiatives.
Compensation: $170,000–$220,000 annual base salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus eligibility for an annual incentive bonus with a 15% target opportunity. Comprehensive benefits are also provided.
