Job Title Management Accountant

Reports To Finance Director

Direct Reports None initially - potential to manage Assistant Accountant, Sales Ledger Clerk, Purchase Ledger Clerk and Payroll Clerk

Purpose of the Role To manage the day-to-day finance function and deliver accurate and timely financial information, management accounts, cash flow forecasting, balance sheet control and operational KPIs.

Key Responsibilities Monthly Management Accounts Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts. Prepare profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow reports. Produce monthly profit and loss accounts by business area and operational activity. Analyse and variances against budget, forecast and prior periods (month & year). Prepare management commentary and KPI reporting for FD review. Ensure financial reporting complies with company policies and accounting standards.

Financial Control Maintain control of all balance sheet accounts, including but not limited to Fixed Assets, Customer/Employee Loan Accounts, Prepayments, Accruals, Other debtors (VAT, Fridge Deposits),

Bank Loans, HP & Lease Agreements, DLA, Accruals & Provisions, Payroll Associated Control and Liability accounts.

Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including but not limited to departmental cost allocations, stock journals, payroll journals, accrual and prepayment schedules, sage accounting process and controls. Review sales, purchase and payroll ledgers.

Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.

Budgeting & Forecasting Support the Finance Director in the preparation of annual budgets. Prepare periodic forecasts and reforecasts. Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts. Support the FP&A Analyst with modelling and analysis.

Cashflow & Treasury Management Manage daily cash reporting. Produce and maintain rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts. Support treasury management activities including: Bank & Trust Accounts, Invoice Discounting Accounts, Foreign Exchange, Standing Orders and DD's. Review and recommend payment proposals for Finance Director approval. Administer HP and lease payment arrangements.

Compliance & Reporting Review VAT returns and supporting reconciliations prior to FD approval. Support audit preparation and year-end processes. Assist with ONS submissions and regulatory reporting (eg packaging, environmental). Ensure compliance with internal financial controls.

KPI & Commercial Reporting Support the production of financial and operational KPIs. Support Assitant Accountant and other finance team members with the collate non-financial data required for management reporting. Provide price and cost reporting to assist operational decision-making. Support the FP&A Analyst with data validation and reporting requirements. Support the FP&A Analyst with liquid reconciliation processes through provision of financial and operational data.

Governance & Team Support Support the Finance Director in maintaining strong financial controls. Assist with oversight of finance processes across sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll and cash management activities. Review coding, authorisation and accounting treatment of significant transactions. Provide technical support and guidance to finance team members. Assist the Finance Director in managing finance team workloads and resolving accounting queries. Deputise for the Finance Director when required. Ensure procedures are documented and followed.

Business Support Provide financial analysis to operational managers. Monitor overhead costs. Support inventory and stock reporting. Assist with capital expenditure monitoring and business cases.

General Responsibilities Respond to day-to-day accounting and financial queries. Support stock control and purchasing processes from a financial perspective. Maintain awareness of operational activities affecting financial performance. Undertake other duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility. Comply with all company policies and Quality Management System requirements.
