Description of Work

SALARY: $48,243.00 - $73,617.00

The Trial Court Administrator's Office, 26th Judicial District, serving Mecklenburg County, seeks a qualified candidate to assist the Community Access and Outreach Division in the development, implementation, and administration of services that improve access to the court system. Responsibilities include strengthening public trust and confidence in the courts through the development and dissemination of information that creates realistic expectations and an understanding of the court’s role and function and facilitating access to court programs, services and activities. This position is also responsible for the coordination of disability access and accommodations for the courthouse in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate outreach initiatives.

  • Collaborate with community organizations.

  • Represent the Trial Court Administrator's Office at community events and speaking engagements.

  • Respond to public and media inquiries.

  • Provide guided educational tours of the courthouse.

  • Coordinate educational opportunities for court personnel on community groups and resources.

  • Draft internal and external communications for court events, activities and emergency notifications.

  • Coordinate community involvement activities for the Trial Court Administrator's Office.

  • Facilitate disability access and accommodations governed by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Recruit, screen, orient and place interns and volunteers. 

  • Develop and administer surveys.

  • Compile data and prepare reports.

  • Write and administer grants. 

  • General administrative duties including financial reporting and bookkeeping. 

  • Any special project work as assigned. 

This position reports to the Public Information Officer. Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Alternate work arrangements, including remote work, are available.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Knowledge of:  court system and legal office practices and procedures.

Skills in:  case management; organization; entering data quickly and with accuracy; and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to:  explain office and court procedures, and regulations to the public; analyze and interpret facts or program information to make necessary decisions with accuracy; work independently in administering or coordinating special court programs; accurately spell and apply proper grammar; work well with others; and organize and complete work by specific deadlines; and speak, read, and understand Spanish.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in court administration, criminal justice, public administration, business, or a related field, and one year of experience in the court system to acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work described; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Management prefers applicants with a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public relations, public administration, communications, English or related field. An advanced degree in judicial administration, public administration, or communications is preferred. Management seeks an applicant with experience planning, coordinating, and executing community outreach events, educational programs, and public engagement initiatives; knowledge of and experience facilitating disability access and accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act; working knowledge of court operations, court procedures, and legal terminology; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher; experience developing content for print, digital, and social media platforms. Bilingual applicants fluent in Spanish are preferred and encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be a creative and highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills (oral and written) that can manage multiple projects.
