The successful candidate must also possess qualifications for a collateral assignment in the Admissions Office as an Admissions Counselor. This unique position will be deployed as an established champion for the basketball teams by aligning recruitment efforts in Admissions. The successful candidate will need to have demonstrated a successful career of working with students of various backgrounds, which may include low income, first generation, and students from urban schools.
Physical Demands
Lifting and transporting materials up to 35 lbs. is required.
Working conditions and environment
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends. Admissions Counselor: Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. However, numerous evening and weekend hours will be required. The ability to travel throughout the Midwest by automobile is also required.

Key Job Responsibilities:
Admissions Counselor
In the Admission Office, the Admissions and Recruitment Coordinator II, with the working title of Admissions Counselor, will report to the Associate Director of Admissions. This position plays a significant role in the recruitment and outreach activities of the Admissions Office. Our goal is to increase the number of applicants to the University and enroll a talented and diverse student body representing the state of Wisconsin and Upper Midwest. The Admissions Counselor will meet with prospective students and their parents, high school counselors, various groups on and off-campus, alumni, and other contacts to promote the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse opportunities. Particular attention will be given to populations that add to the diversity of the student body, including those with various backgrounds and experiences, low income, first generation, students from urban schools, and athletes. A significant part of the recruitment process will be establishing and nurturing relationships that can serve as a conduit for students to learn about UW-La Crosse. This staff member will collaborate with other Admissions Office staff members, working together to coordinate recruitment activities. Extensive travel is required, especially during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.
Assistant Coach
As an Assistant Coach, the successful candidates will assist with the management of daily operations of the Division III intercollegiate basketball programs competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, with responsibilities including, but not limited to: assisting in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, and administering of the basketball program to meet university and department objectives. They will also be responsible for various administrative tasks associated with running an intercollegiate basketball program, potentially including, but not limited to, the planning of team travel, managing equipment and/or video and technology needs, and coordinating camps. The Assistant coaches must conduct themselves in such a way as to enhance respect for the university, Athletics Department, UWL basketball program, and UWL student-athletes.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Basketball coaching or playing experience at high school, club, or collegiate level.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills such as excellent written and public speaking.
- Experience working with students from various backgrounds, which may include low income, first generation, and students from urban schools.
- Ability to lift/transport materials up to 35lbs.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Valid driver’s license and a two year driving history.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III and WIAC rules.
- Collegiate coaching or playing experience.
- Collegiate recruiting experience.
- Strong organizational and event planning skills
- Ability to adapt and manage multiple competing priorities
- Ability to use and learn multiple computer technologies (such as Peoplesoft, ImageNow, TargetX CRM, Microsoft Office)
- Experience in marketing, admissions or a related area of higher education
