Position Overview
This search is for an Associate or Full Professor/Department Chair 12-month appointment position in the Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education within the College of Education and Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The position will be a combination of service as department chair (50%) and teaching (50%) in a field within the department. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate, graduate, and/or doctoral level coursework in the TBED’s programs, engage in grant seeking, research and publication, serve on university committees, participate in professional service activities, provide visionary leadership for faculty and staff, recruit for the department’s programs, and foster collegial relationships with others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
Teach undergraduate, graduate, and/or doctoral courses assigned within the department.
Deliver instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
Develop course materials and maintain high standards of instructional quality.
Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Research
Maintain an active program of scholarship through research and peer-reviewed publications
Seek and secure internal and external grant funding.
Engage in scholarly collaborations that support departmental and college priorities.
Support a culture of faculty research and scholarly productivity
Service and Administrative
Provide leadership for departmental planning, personnel, budgeting, scheduling, and operations.
Lead accreditation, assessment, and program review activities.
Liaise with the Educator Preparation Program, university units, and community stakeholders.
Support student recruitment, retention, and program growth.
Conduct faculty evaluations and provide recommendations regarding tenure, promotion, and personnel actions.
Mentor faculty and foster a collegial, collaborative environment.
Promote transparent communication, shared governance, and a collegial culture.
Serve on university committees and represent the department with internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Education
Earned doctorate in a discipline related to Teacher and Bilingual Education or a closely related field.
Experience
Tenured Associate Professor or Professor.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, professional development, and service.
Record of academic leadership, planning, administration, personnel supervision and budget oversight.
Successful experience with accreditation and program reviews.
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders.
Commitment to educator preparation and serving our student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years managing budgets and supervising personnel.
Experience with fundraising and advancement initiatives.
Experience with Educator Preparation Programs.
Graduate teaching experience.
Minimum five years of PreK–12 teaching experience.
Experience with curriculum revision, culturally responsive pedagogy, technology-enhanced learning, and grant writing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
Knowledge of accreditation, assessment, budgeting, and higher education administration.
Ability to mentor faculty and build collaborative partnerships.
Ability to travel between Kingsville and the Rio Grande Valley as needed.

Additional Information
A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee. If immigration sponsorship may be required for employment, consult with private immigration counsel, at the individual’s expense, is recommended to determine whether the individual’s current immigration status would make a potential offer of employment from Texas A&M University-Kingsville subject to this fee.
In addition, on January 27, 2026, Texas Governor Abbott issued a moratorium on the filing of any new H-1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Accordingly, if sponsorship for employment visa status is required now or in the future, this moratorium may affect the university’s ability to employ the selected final candidate. TAMUK will adhere to applicable regulations regarding visa opportunities.
