Description
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager applies industrial engineering principles to develop, implement, integrate, and continuously improve the processes, equipment, production systems, quality controls, and standardized work used in DreamBuild’s volumetric modular housing operations. The position works with Production, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Planning, and other teams to improve manufacturing capability, product quality, throughput, reliability, productivity, and process consistency.A central responsibility is developing and improving manufacturing quality processes and controls, especially for plumbing, electrical, and other work that becomes concealed during later construction stages. The manager develops procedures, verification methods, tools, hold points, and documentation requirements so required work and checks are completed and recorded before production advances. Changes must remain consistent with DreamBuild’s State of Texas approved Quality Assurance Manual, approved building systems, and applicable production requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manufacturing Engineering and Process Development
• Evaluate safety and environmental risks when developing or changing production methods, workflows, materials, and process controls; incorporate practical safeguards into standardized work and operating procedures.• Analyze production methods and develop improved workflows, standardized work, process specifications, controls, and operating procedures for volumetric modular construction.
• Evaluate capacity, production flow, cycle times, utilization, bottlenecks, labor requirements, material movement, variation, and rework using industrial engineering methods.
• Develop and implement engineering solutions that improve throughput, productivity, quality, reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness.
• Establish operating parameters and measurable performance criteria for new and existing manufacturing processes; evaluate proposed changes to methods, materials, tooling, equipment, and production sequence with affected functions.
Manufacturing Equipment Tooling and Technology
• Identify opportunities to improve operations through equipment, tools, fixtures, automation, testing equipment, and production technology.• Assess equipment and tooling for safe operation, ergonomics, guarding, maintenance access, and environmental impact during selection and implementation; verify that required safeguards are in place before production use.
• Work with personnel responsible for environmental health and safety to address safety concerns identified during installation, commissioning, or operation of manufacturing equipment.
• Develop technical and operational requirements based on safety, process capability, quality, ergonomics, capacity, and expected performance; participate in technical evaluation and selection.
• Lead implementation, installation, integration, commissioning, validation, and production readiness of new or modified equipment and manufacturing processes.
• Develop operating procedures, training requirements, acceptance criteria, and performance measures; monitor results and address performance gaps after implementation.
Manufacturing Quality Systems and Process Controls
• Develop and improve manufacturing quality procedures, inspection methodologies, verification methods, checklists, quality gates, and hold points in coordination with Quality Assurance.• Define objective acceptance criteria and documentation requirements at critical production stages so unverified or nonconforming work does not advance.
• Give particular attention to plumbing and electrical rough-in and other systems that become inaccessible after walls, ceilings, insulation, drywall, or other assemblies are installed.
• Develop controls that support completion, documentation, and acceptance of required plumbing, electrical, mechanical, framing, and other inspections and tests before concealed work proceeds.
• Evaluate verification tools, testing methods, and process controls; ensure changes remain aligned with the approved Quality Assurance Manual, building systems, and controlled production documents.
Continuous Improvement and Operational Performance
• Lead structured improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations and analyze production and quality data for constraints, defects, variation, excess cycle time, rework, waste, inefficient flow, and equipment limitations.• Include safe work methods, equipment precautions, and relevant environmental controls in technical training for new or revised processes and equipment.
• Conduct root cause analysis and develop technically sound corrective and preventive actions; implement approved changes and measure their effectiveness.
• Develop and monitor indicators for quality, throughput, capacity, productivity, process reliability, rework, and defects.
• Facilitate cross functional improvement projects and promote repeatable processes and standardized work across manufactured units.
Documentation and Process Control
• Develop and maintain manufacturing procedures, work instructions, process control documents, checklists, inspection tools, and technical records.• Develop methods to capture, organize, retain, and retrieve evidence of inspections, tests, hold points, deviations, corrective actions, and approvals in coordination with Quality Assurance.
• Improve documentation for completeness, usability, traceability, and compliance with applicable document control and retention requirements.
• Support systems for tracking nonconformances, corrective actions, recurring defects, inspection results, and manufacturing performance.
Cross Functional Engineering and Implementation
• Serve as a technical resource for complex production, process, equipment, quality, and workflow problems.• Coordinate manufacturing changes with Production, Quality Assurance, Material Planning, and other affected functions.
• Work with vendors and technical service providers to evaluate and implement manufacturing solutions; establish technical requirements, implementation plans, validation criteria, and performance measures.
• Provide technical training on new or revised processes, equipment, tools, procedures, and controls.
• Support scale up and introduction of new or modified modular housing products by assessing production capability, equipment needs, process controls, and quality requirements.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.• Professional knowledge of manufacturing systems, production processes, process improvement, quality systems, capacity and workflow analysis, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methods.
• Ability to analyze manufacturing processes, develop sound engineering solutions, and implement procedures, standardized work, process controls, and measurable performance standards.
• Ability to lead cross functional manufacturing engineering projects from problem identification through implementation and validation.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in manufacturing engineering, production engineering, continuous improvement, or a related engineering function.• Experience with Lean manufacturing, structured problem solving, process mapping, capacity analysis, standardized work, and equipment or tooling integration.
• Experience in modular construction, building systems, construction manufacturing, or another engineered manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with inspection processes, document control, corrective action systems, and manufacturing performance metrics.
