This position will work in the Roadside Environmental Unit Litter Management Section. The Administrative Specialist I is responsible for supporting the litter prevention initiatives of the Litter Management Section by interacting with the public by phone and email contact and by providing support functions for the Swat-A-Litterbug program by entering reports on the Department’s database and maintaining updated files. The position will assist with database management of the Adopt-A-Highway Program by updating the web application database. As the statewide Sponsor-A-Highway Program continues to grow statewide, this position will provide Sponsor-A-Highway Program management support by processing, recording, and filing incoming service agreements and supplemental agreements, contacting service providers to obtain additional documentation as needed, and assist with database information entry, report queries and support in maintaining updated list of sponsorship segments along each direction of travel along multiple roadways. Position requires program knowledge and understanding of Departmental operations along with the ability to independently apply program guidelines to resolve problems and inquiries from the public or service providers.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC08; $39,244 - $68,679
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Customer service experience including resolving customer issues.
- Experience in completing and/or maintaining records, reports, and data using MS office products and/or mainframe databases.
- Experience interpreting and/or evaluating information or data.
- Experience in interpreting and/or explaining policies, procedures, and laws using excellent communication skills.
- Experience with letter writing, using correct spelling, punctuation, and proofreading.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
