Venture Capital Job – Associate, Private Investments – East Rock Capital

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking to hire an Associate to join our Private Investments team.

This role is based in our New York City office 4–5 days a week. An immediate start date is preferred, though we can be flexible for a candidate targeting summer 2027.

The annual base salary for the position is expected to be from $130,000 to $150,000 per year, but will depend on various factors, such as work experience and candidate skillset. The position is also entitled to a discretionary annual bonus and comprehensive benefits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

We are a lean team that evaluates over 500 deals and 200 private equity sponsors, with a goal of making 10–15 direct co-investments each year. The Associate will work on 2–3-person deal teams and will be involved in multiple closed deals each year.

1. Assess private investment opportunities – Review sponsor investment materials, conduct industry and competitive landscape research, build and stress-test financial models, and prepare internal investment memos.
2. Research and evaluate private equity sponsors – Diligence sponsor professional backgrounds and track records. Participate in sponsor meetings and reference calls. Develop a view on sponsor quality and differentiation.
3. Manage our pipeline – Own and maintain data in our CRM, track next steps across the team, and coordinate with sponsors and other third parties.
4. Develop our network – Build and maintain relationships with GPs, LPs, and placement agents. Represent East Rock at industry events and conferences.
5. Be a team player – We’re a small, dynamic and growing team so you’ll contribute on a bit of everything, including portfolio monitoring, market research, and ad hoc client projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience – 2–3 years in investing (GP, LP or publics), consulting, or investment banking.
2. A low-ego, team player – Wants to win together. Has a mindset that nothing is too big or too small. Wants to have fun and grow.
3. A reader, writer, and communicator – Can find, consume, and synthesize sponsor work and primary research, and then communicate it succinctly and elegantly.
4. A curious mind – Appreciates learning about different businesses, sectors, geographies, and securities; how they are valued; and how to make money buying and selling them.
5. A detail-oriented individual – Produces error-free, easily auditable work in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Highly organized, with a strong attention to detail and good processes.
6. An independent problem solver – Enjoys tackling complicated topics and projects with limited guidance.
