Description
Since 1917, Globe Machine Manufacturing has designed and built innovative industrial machinery, systems and complete manufacturing solutions for customers around the world. Today, Globe serves industries including advanced composites, building products, and pulp and paper.
We're looking for a Controls Engineer to own controls design across the full equipment lifecycle from hardware selection through PLC/HMI programming, testing, start-up and commissioning, working closely with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, project management and customers on custom industrial equipment.
Expect approximately 40% travel including international sites for equipment start-up, commissioning and troubleshooting. If you want a career where you see your designs go from drawing to running machinery at customer facilities around the world, this is that role.
What You'll Do
- Design electrical and control systems for custom industrial machinery and automated equipment; develop supporting drawings and schematics in AutoCAD.
- Specify electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, motion and controls components, and program/configure PLC-based systems, HMIs, industrial networks, MCC hardware/software and closed-loop servo controls.
- Test completed equipment, troubleshoot issues, and make programming, configuration or design modifications as needed.
- Lead start-up and commissioning at customer sites, working directly with customers to ensure systems perform as designed.
- Partner with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, sales, purchasing and project management throughout design and build.
- Collaborate with customers, vendors and contractors to meet technical and performance requirements, and contribute to operation/maintenance documentation.
What You'll Bring
- BS in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 3+ years designing controls or electro-mechanical systems for industrial/manufacturing equipment or capital equipment.
- Hands-on PLC programming and HMI development, plus working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and motion control systems.
- Experience with Rockwell and/or Siemens platforms (RSLogix/Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, Step7, WinCC, Wonderware InTouch).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, with the ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
- Equipment start-up, commissioning and troubleshooting experience is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, able to manage multiple projects, and communicate effectively across engineering, manufacturing and customer teams.
Why Globe?
Controls engineers here work end-to-end on custom machinery and automation projects not just maintaining existing systems. Our team gains broad exposure to technologies, industries and applications alongside experienced engineers, manufacturing teams and customers, at a manufacturer with over a century of history.
If you like understanding how things work, solving hard problems, and seeing your designs become real machinery, we'd like to hear from you.
