Job Summary
The Business Analyst is responsible for analyzing business processes, gathering requirements, and facilitating effective solutions in alignment with organizational goals. This role includes a strong emphasis on defect tracking and management, supporting ongoing system enhancements, and ensuring successful delivery of technical solutions across insurance-related functions. The Business Analyst acts as a liaison between business units and technical teams to support both project delivery and operational excellence.
Reports To: Manager, Project Delivery
Duties/Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders (underwriting, claims, actuarial, compliance, IT, customer service) to gather and analyze business requirements.
- Translate business needs into detailed functional and technical requirements, user stories, process flows, and system specifications.
- Support testing (UAT) by validating requirements and ensuring delivered solutions meet business needs.
- Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring accurate translation of requirements.
- Coordinate defect identification, logging, triaging, and resolution in collaboration with QA, development, and business teams.
- Analyze root causes of defects and work with technical teams to recommend solutions
- Communicate defect status and impact to stakeholders, escalating critical issues as needed.
- Participate in defect review meetings and ensure timely closure of high-priority issues.
- Facilitate meetings and workshops to elicit, define, and validate requirements.
- Work closely with project managers to monitor project progress and manage risks or issues.
- Stay current with insurance industry trends, regulations, and technologies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of insurance operations (especially in property, general liability, commercial or personal lines).
- Familiarity with core insurance systems (policy admin, billing, claims).
- Hands-on experience with defect tracking tools like JIRA, Azure DevOps, HP ALM, or Bugzilla.
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Occasional overtime may be required during project deadlines or system rollouts.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, both in a home and office environment. The role involves frequent use of a headset, keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment. Occasional movement within the office may be required, such as walking to meetings or accessing shared equipment.
Pay Range:
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Utica First’s total compensation package for employees.
