Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager of Adult Outpatient Mental Health and Substance Use Programs, the applicant’s primary responsibility will be an Occupational Therapist in the First Intervention Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT). This role will include intake, assessment and providing individual and group support and therapy to adults who are living with severe and persistent mental health conditions. The Occupational Therapist will work collaboratively with the client/their family and the team to assess, plan, develop, coordinate and provide treatment, rehabilitation and support. The purpose of ACTT is to utilize and support psychosocial interventions, using natural supports to the greatest extent possible, to enable the client to maintain and develop appropriate functioning and roles. In addition, the Occupational Therapist will provide an active role in facilitating the client’s connection and involvement in supported education and employment opportunities.
Requirements:
- Masters in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent, required.
- Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) in good standing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of COTO Standards of Practice.
- Minimum 2 years of recent mental health service provision experience is required
- Experience working in a community setting
- Experience in developing and facilitating treatment groups
- Understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA is required
- Well-developed skills in conducting assessment for those experiencing mental health challenges and experience working with their families
- Knowledge of community resources and recovery model principles and trauma informed care
- The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
- Demonstrates values consistent with SHN′s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area.
- Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record
- Variable hours may be required due to patient demand
- G Drivers license and access to a vehicle
Asset:
- Experience providing supportive education and vocational activities
- Training and experience providing psychotherapy, such as CBT or CBT P
- Training in suicide prevention and interventions such as: ASIST, AMSR
- Ability to speak another language is an asset
