Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia, College of Arts and Sciences, Division of Social & Behavioral Sciences invites applications for one (1) Tenure-Track Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor appointment in the Psychology Program. The target start date will be August 16, 2025. Teach core undergraduate courses in the Psychology program and possess specific expertise in the teaching of critical writing skills for psychology literature reviews and foundational knowledge in Clinical Psychology such as conditioning, cognition, personality traits, and cultural influences outlined by the DSM V.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Psychology, specifically the candidate would need experience teaching Introduction to Psychology, Critical Skills Development, Statistics, Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Personality, Learning, and Cognition.
  • Keep abreast of developments in their instructional area by reading current literature, collaborating with colleagues, participating in professional conferences, and designing online materials to enhance academic performance.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom student-centered instruction and discussions.
  • Evaluate and grade students’ class work, assignments, and papers using rubrics and other student-centered approaches.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades and other required records.
  • Advise and mentor students on academic and career issues including undergraduate internships in the discipline.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
  • Maintain currency in the use of software and technology in the classroom.
  •  Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements

  1. A Ph.D. in Psychology from an APA accredited program and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research. 
  2. A minimum of two years (role as graduate teaching assistant will be considered) of teaching Psychology courses at the college/university level.
  3. Demonstrated evidence of scholarly publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at discipline-related conferences.
  4. Evidence of working with underserved populations both in the classroom and in the community.
  5. Demonstrated record of collaborating with faculty colleagues through participation in program, college, and university activities.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: 
A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
 

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
