Description
This position is responsible for payroll preparation/processing, garnishment reporting and union-records administration. The incumbent assist payroll staff members during the absence of the Payroll Manager and serves as backup.
Focus is on, but not limited to the following:
- Verify and process payroll information, including employee time and attendance, tax withholding, and benefits deductions.
- Verify payroll adjustments.
- Primary responsibility is received, set up and withhold voluntary withholdings disbursements such as levies, garnishments, and child support.
- Review and document payroll processes and develop detailed and thorough Standard Operating Procedures for the department.
- Review processes and determine if there are possibilities to streamline, simplify, automate, and/or optimize workflows to reduce inefficiencies, save time, and improve productivity.
- Responsible for the garnishment to AP Infinium interface and distribution of checks or electronic payment to the appropriate agencies of the garnishment withholding.
- Provide payroll-related information to the accountants as requested and help reconcile the GL accounts.
- Determining and correcting out-of-balance conditions.
- Preparing and filing tax liabilities.
- Check electronic data for errors.
- Process terminated employees.
- Process all manual checks for adjustment, terminations, direct deposit refunds.
- Ensure timely approval and missing punches in the timekeeping system.
- Process payroll on time and accurately, in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Verify accuracy of paid time off accruals.
- Oversee PTO processing, by reviewing eligibility.
- Adhere to departmental quality standards.
- Work within the guidelines established by the company.
- Responds to employee and departmental complaints/inquiries, in person, in writing or by telephone to resolve payroll/personnel transaction issues.
- Must maintain accurate departmental records.
- Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping confidential information.
- Continuously review and recommend improvements to payroll processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of principles of payroll, including tax withholding, voluntary deductions such as levy, garnishment and child support, and fringe benefits.
- 1-3 years Payroll experience for a Resort/Casino.
- Previous experience with Infinium and Timekeeping.
- Working knowledge of various Casino Payroll matters to include:
- GITCA, Tokes & Tips.
- Operate a calculator quickly and accurately.
- Able to deal tactfully with employees of all levels in frequently trying situations.
- Proficient Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel,) and knowledge of front-of-house casino operations as related to Payroll.
- Excellent communication skills, customer service and team oriented, self-starter.
- Strong data entry skills, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills and exhibit composure and professionalism while under pressure.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while meeting constant deadlines and maintaining strong attention to details.
