The Sr Engineer, Software Automation is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable test automation frameworks and infrastructure for complex medical device systems. This role is a key technical contributor within the Instrument Test Engineering organization, developing Python-based automation solutions that improve test efficiency, reliability, repeatability, and coverage. 

The position reports to the Sr Manager, Instrument Software Test and is part of the Software Test Engineering department located in Irvine, CA and will be an on-site role.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks and supporting infrastructure for instrument and system-level testing. 
• Develop reusable test libraries, device interfaces, protocol libraries, utilities, and common automation components across instrument platforms. 
• Build software simulators and emulators for hardware devices and external systems to enable isolated and reproducible testing. 

• Mentor engineers contributing to the automation codebase and establish best practices for software architecture, code quality, maintainability, and reuse. 

• Participate in technical design and code reviews and provide technical leadership for test automation initiatives. 

The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include:

• B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of experience in software engineering or test automation.
• Strong software development experience with Python, including object-oriented programming, debugging, and development of reusable software components. 

• Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks or substantial automation infrastructure. 

• Experience testing complex systems involving software, hardware, embedded devices, and communication interfaces. 

• Experience with Git, CI/CD systems, and modern software development practices. 

• Strong debugging, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. 

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Experience with medical devices, embedded systems, or other regulated products. 

• Experience interfacing with physical devices, laboratory equipment, or test instrumentation. 

• Experience with communication technologies such as serial, USB, TCP/IP, Bluetooth/BLE, or similar protocols. 

• Experience developing device simulators, emulators, mocks, or hardware-in-the-loop test solutions. 

• Experience with Python test frameworks such as pytest. 

• Familiarity with medical device software development, verification, and design control processes.

The annual salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. 

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
