Summary

A growing bookkeeping services firm is seeking a Director of Client Bookkeeping Services to lead and continue building its client service and bookkeeping operation.

This is a senior leadership role overseeing both the team and the quality of service delivered across client accounts. The Director will be responsible for strengthening processes and systems, improving efficiency and scalability, developing the team, and helping shape the growth strategy for the business.

The ideal candidate comes from a client services bookkeeping environment and combines strong accounting knowledge with excellent communication skills, operational thinking, and a forward-looking approach to technology and AI.

Responsibilities

• Lead the client bookkeeping function and oversee the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of work across client accounts

• Oversee full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting services, including monthly close, reconciliations, AP/AR, financial reporting, and related functions

• Serve as a senior point of contact for clients and ensure a consistently high level of communication and service

• Lead, manage, mentor, and develop the bookkeeping and accounting team

• Establish clear standards, accountability, and quality controls across the department

• Build and improve processes, workflows, and operating procedures as the business grows

• Evaluate and implement systems, automation, and technology to improve efficiency and scalability

• Identify practical opportunities to incorporate AI into workflows, reporting, client service, and internal operations

• Improve client onboarding, ongoing service delivery, reporting, and internal review processes

• Work closely with leadership on staffing, capacity planning, service offerings, and growth strategy

• Help build a scalable operation while maintaining strong client relationships and high-quality work

Requirements

• Strong experience in a client services bookkeeping environment

• Strong knowledge of full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting, including month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting

• Proven experience leading and developing teams

• Excellent communication and relationship-management skills, with the ability to work directly with clients and senior decision-makers

• Strong process-building and systems mindset

• Forward-thinking approach to technology, automation, and AI

• Ability to think strategically while staying close enough to the work to understand and improve execution

• Driven, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership in a growing business
