To manage the day-to-day operations of financial management services and to provide administrative support to the Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and CFO. This position collaborates with the Controller and other key members of the Division for Business Affairs to develop and monitor financial key performance indicators with current or potential impact to the university operations. This position engages with units across the university to support their planning and operations for business and financial related responsibilities. Supports strategic goals and objectives in alignment with the University’s and Division’s strategic initiatives. Ensures compliance with University, TAMUS, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities:
Leadership, Management, Compliance Oversight
Directs, manages, and ensures compliance for the units under this position relating to financial management services.
Serves as part of the Senior Vice President for Business Affairs/Chief Financial Officer’s executive team.
Ensures compliance with University, Texas A&M University System, state, and federal regulations.
Financial Strategy, Analysis, Forecasting, and Financial Issue Resolution
Evaluate and mitigate financial issues concerning the campus needs.
Along with the CFO, facilitate financial understanding among other members of the university.
Provide financial analysis and forecasts, as needed.
Financial Reporting, Executive Decision Support
Reviews and approves financial reports and financial projections for the University.
Develops reporting mechanisms to provide monthly financial information to the Chief Financial Officer.
Collaborates with the Controller and Business Affairs leadership.
Policy and Procedure Development
Develops and evaluates fiscal policies and procedures as well as documents/forms to guide fiscal management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree
Ten years of related experience in financial management, including related supervisory experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of relevant software applications for business and finance functions.
Knowledge of GASB and NACUBO standards.
Knowledge of financial reporting processes, including forecasting, projections, and budget.
Knowledge of legislative appropriations process and associated financial analyses.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business administration or accounting.
Ten years of experience as a Controller, Finance/Budget Director, Assistant Controller or similar position in a public higher education institution.
Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; specifically, Excel, procurement systems, contracts, and research support and other systems.
Proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems.
Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations.
Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
Demonstrated supervisory, leadership and project management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management about the finances of the business and justify certain financial recommendations.
Proven ability to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members.
