General Description / Primary Purpose:
The Senior Director of Development for ArtsUNF and MOCA Jacksonville leads philanthropic strategy and fundraising for ArtsUNF initiatives and the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, the University of North Florida's largest arts and cultural component. The position works collaboratively with University Development and Alumni Engagement, ArtsUNF, and MOCA leadership to secure support from individuals, corporations, foundations, government sources, and community partners.
The position manages a major-gift portfolio and directs fundraising for annual operations, programs, endowment, capital initiatives, exhibitions, collections, education, and student engagement. The largest portion of effort supports MOCA and its approximately $2.5 million annual operating budget. The position reports administratively through University Development and Alumni Engagement and maintains a collaborative reporting relationship with ArtsUNF and MOCA leadership.
Job Functions:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan for ArtsUNF and MOCA, with primary emphasis on MOCA's annual operating and programmatic needs and alignment with University fundraising priorities.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major-gift prospects and donors, emphasizing gifts of $100,000 or more.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 or more qualified prospects and conduct five to seven substantive donor or prospect meetings per week.
- Secure philanthropic support for operations, exhibitions, collections, educational and public programs, student opportunities, endowment, capital needs, and other approved strategic priorities through individual, corporate, foundation, government, sponsorship, planned-giving, and campaign strategies.
- Prepare and coordinate proposals, grant applications, sponsorship materials, case statements, donor presentations, reports, and stewardship communications in collaboration with appropriate University and Museum partners.
- Engage University and MOCA leaders, the MOCA Board of Trustees, ArtsUNF advisory groups, faculty, staff, and volunteers in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, campaign activity, and community advocacy.
- Coordinate donor engagement and fundraising opportunities associated with exhibitions, programs, special events, and community initiatives, and represent ArtsUNF, MOCA, and the University at donor and professional functions.
- Oversee donor and prospect data management, revenue tracking, proposal activity, and fundraising metrics to support strategic decision-making, effective stewardship, and compliance with institutional policies and donor requirements.
Marginal Functions:
- Represent ArtsUNF, MOCA, and the University at occasional evening, weekend, off-site, or travel-related donor and community activities.
- Participate in special campaigns, task forces, or institutional initiatives as assigned when those activities fall outside routine fundraising responsibilities.
- Perform designated job-related duties during a declared emergency at an assigned off-campus location or place of residence.
- May serve on the Search & Screen Committee for Director-level and above positions.
Required Qualifications
Master's and 8+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.Professional Qualifications
