Manager Technical Training manages and provides leadership for the strategic vision, design, development, and execution of technical training and apprenticeship programs. This position will work with operations leadership and various internal stakeholders to implement strategies and process changes. This role provides feedback on programmatic improvements to ensure that the training programs meet the needs of Alliant Energy, the business unit, participants, and communities served.

- Responsible for the planning, coordinating, and directing of technical training policies, programs, and schedules based on knowledge of identified training needs, regulatory mandates, company production processes, business systems, or change in procedures and services. Manages in‐house and externally provided training programs, practices, and procedures to ensure optimal utilization of personnel.
- Establishes, maintains, and leverages critical community and internal partnerships to build technical skill pipeline within communities of Interstate Power and Light (IPL).
- Works with system and process owners to implement process improvements. Responsible for ensuring resources are available, trained, and assigned to address process improvements.
- Manages a budget and is able to account for variances.
- Drives best practices to ensure on-going success of technical training programs, including innovative solutions and apprenticeship engagement.
- With the assistance of the safety department, investigates accidents and safety incidents. Responsible for communicating safety investigation information to management.
- Administers and monitors safety programs and performs safety assessments.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of company labor agreements to ensure proper negotiation and implementation of work rules. Maintains a solid working relationship with union leadership while making strategic recommendations to increase productivity, quality, and customer service levels.
- Understands and enforces rules set by regulatory bodies, e.g., Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
- Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
- Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in business, engineering or related area Preferred
Required Experience
- 5 years of experience in large electric construction, gas and electric operations, project management, or related work
- 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent. (Equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with labor union management preferred.
- Knowledge of safety rules and applicable electric codes and DOT regulations preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand utility maps, plan and profiles, and drawings preferred.
- Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of information technology applications. Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range:
This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
