About the Team

The Merch Execution team builds technology that connects merchandising strategy, space planning, labor planning, store tasking, and field execution. Its objective is to create an integrated, intelligent workflow from merchant intent through MST execution, reducing manual handoffs and improving visibility into project health, readiness, progress, and risks.

The portfolio includes the MST App, MST Portal, Deployment Control Tower, project-planning capabilities, Localized Planogram Tool (LPT), field-merchant tools, and pricing/label modernization. These products help associates and field leaders execute resets, services, pricing, signage, planogram, and capacity-planning work more accurately and efficiently.

As a Lead Software Engineer, this role will provide technical leadership across complex, business-critical capabilities—guiding solution design, engineering quality, delivery execution, and collaboration across product, UX, data, architecture, and operational partners.

I.            Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical direction on translating business requirements and functional specifications into logical program designs. This includes facilitating the implementation and maintenance of complex business and enterprise software solutions to ensure successful deployment of released applications. This role serves as a technical expert for project teams throughout the implementation and maintenance of business and enterprise software solutions. In addition, this role personally develops and delivers complex code modules, stable application systems, and integrated enterprise software solutions within various computing environments.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Resolves complex problems spanning multiple applications to drive improvements across portfolios; leads projects with significant business implications and participates in planning, prioritization and estimates. Leads development of integrated business and/or enterprise application to ensure solution is resilient, scalable, and maintainable and meets architectural standards. Builds awareness and product alignment to enterprise recommended frameworks, tools, technologies, engineering platforms, and architectural design processes. Drives operational excellence through disaster recovery and capacity planning, performance, regression and chaos testing, observability alerts and dashboards, and reliability processes and recovery runbooks. Deconstructs complex problems into simple solutions that can evolve over time. Educates others on engineering standards and best practices, including code quality analysis, test coverage, security principles (authentication and authorization protocols), and Agile processes. Mentors and advises others by applying and sharing an in-depth understanding of enterprise and industry technologies, tools, methodologies, policies, standards, and best practices. Continuously explores and recommends new enterprise software components and technologies. Continuously works to simplify solutions, optimize processes, remove bottlenecks, and resolve escalated issues.

• 9 years of experience in software development or related field

•   Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems (CIS), or related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement, if applicable

9 years of experience in software development or related field 6 years of experience in any of the following: software engineering competencies Backend and frontend technologies, middleware (microservices and APIs), database technologies, DevOps 7 years of experience working on project(s) involving the implementation of solutions applying development lifecycles through iterative agile development 7 Years of experience in working in Java, Springboot tech stack Hands on experience in ReactJS, Typescript Define team standards for validation, security, compliance, risk, and human oversight of AI outputs. Design systems that safely integrate agents, RAG, workflows, and AI-assisted development across the lifecycle. AI-enabled SDLC automation — standardize code generation, test creation, debugging, PR readiness, release workflows, and documentation Agentic workflow design — experience in creating reusable, version-controlled AI skills rather than relying on one-off prompts; connect workflows to engineering tools through approved integrations Mentor engineers, drive adoption, run AI proofs of concept, and convert successful experiments into shared engineering standards 6 years of experience in systems analysis, including defining technical requirements and performing high level design for complex solutions   6 years of experience working with three or more of the following: continuous integration/continuous deployment tools, frontend technologies (UI/UX), middleware, database technologies, DevOps   4 years of experience leading teams, with or without direct reports
