Security Screener - Lead

This is an exciting opportunity to join the King County Sheriff’s Office. The King County Sheriff's Office and Civil Service seek applicants for a LEAD SECURITY SCREENER position. This position is a Civil Service CLOSED - PROMOTIONAL opportunity open only to current King County Sheriff's Office employees who have successfully completed probation of employment as a Security Screener in the KCSO.

The responsibilities of this classification includes acting as lead to employees providing security screening services in King County locations. The Security Screener-Lead reports to the Sergeant and may also perform duties of a Security Screener.

WHO MAY APPLY: This position is open to the INTERNAL King County Sheriff’s Office applicants only.

In addition to the Security Screener responsibilities, the Security Screener-Lead also performs the following:

• Lead and direct assigned staff; prioritize daily work assignments and assign work, resolve issues, oversee and monitor work.
• Develop and maintain daily and monthly work schedules for the screener group.
• Review absence request to ensure scheduling needs are met.
• Gather and maintain statistical information, including daily post logs and magnetometer test logs.
• Schedule and provide training and test exercises for newly hired Screeners.
• Monitor Screeners at all posts to ensure work adheres to standards.
• Perform regular tests of magnetometers.
• Works post position when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

In addition to the knowledge and skills listed in the Security Screener classification, the Security Screener-Lead must have the following:

• Security Screener in the KCSO
• Demonstrated skill in providing leadership and direction to Screeners.
• Possess excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining positive effective working relationships with departmental personnel and the general public
• Demonstrated skill working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Demonstrated customer service, training and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated experience and skill using a variety of software applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic time keeping functions in applicable software programs.
• Experience and skill in problem solving and conflict-resolution.

 WORK SCHEDULE: This position is FLSA Non-Exempt/Exempt and is overtime eligible/not eligible for overtime. 

UNION MEMBERSHIP: This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 117.
