PURPOSE: The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining environmental, health, and safety programs that protect employees, contractors, and the surrounding community; ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements; and reduce operational risk. The position partners with site leadership and Human Resources to embed a culture of safety and environmental stewardship into daily manufacturing operations.

POSITION SUMMARY (KEYS TO HIRE): This position is responsible for all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations and standards. Responsibilities include all MNP plant locations throughout North America

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of progressive EHS experience including site-level or plant EHS leadership.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
• OSHA-30-hour and HAZWOPER 40-hour certified
• Degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or related field preferred
• ISO 45000 / ISO 14001 knowledge preferred
• Must have team-management experience with multi-site and multi-state oversight.
• Manufacturing experience required, preferably in cold heading, hot forming, steel processing, heat treatment, or plating and coating.
• Experience with environmental regulations expertise such as EPA requirements including RCRA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and EPCRA (Tier II and RI reporting), plus state-level equivalents
• Must have expertise in:
  • Machine guarding, lockout/tagout, confined space, powered industrial trucks, and fall protection
  • Industrial hygiene, including noise, air quality, and chemical exposure monitoring
  • Hazard identification, job hazard analysis, and risk assessment methodologies
  • Incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Workers' compensation management, including claims and return-to-work coordination

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (RESPONSIBILITIES):

 

General

• Develop and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures for management review and implementation.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards, as well as customer and corporate requirements.
• Write and maintain procedures for the Safety Management System (SMS), the Environmental Management System (EMS), and other company systems as needed.
• Prepare and maintain the safety and environmental content of onboarding programs for new employees, visitors, customers, and contractors.
• Develop and maintain environmental and safety training matrices specifying new-hire orientation, annual, and periodic training requirements.
• Attend professional society events and training sessions to remain current on regulations and requirements.
• Complete sustainability assessments as required and assist the Sales Department with environmental and material-related reporting.
• Maintain the list of hazardous chemicals within the Hazard Communication Program.
• Maintain the SPCC program, SWPPP, Storm Water Permit, and Wastewater Discharge Permit and certification, and periodically review the Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP) for all applicable locations.
• Ensure timely completion of required environmental reporting, including SARA Title III (Form R), Tier II, and MAERS.
• Obtain and maintain Storm Water Management Operator certification for the Utica, Michigan facility, and support other sites as needed.

 

Environmental

• Assist in the management of environmental waste programs.
• Ensure completion of monthly site inspections, quarterly storm water testing, and annual site inspections as required by Storm Water Permits.
• Lead and maintain ISO 14001 certification.
• Address other environmental requirements established by law or corporate policy.

 

Safety

• Ensure the SDS database is maintained in conjunction with the Facilities Manager.
• Maintain records of all work-related injuries and illnesses and assist Human Resources with government injury and illness reporting.
• Lead investigations and root cause analyses of near misses and accidents in conjunction with plant management. Assist with workers comp claims.
• Ensure Safety Committees are established and functioning at all sites.
• Ensure Powered Industrial Truck, Crane, and Aerial Lift training and licensing are current and tracked.
• Champion Emergency Action Plan procedures and associated employee training.
• Ensure AED units are current and properly maintained, and that First Aid cabinets are stocked to at least meet the requirements of ANSI/ISEA Z308.1.
• Ensure copies of the occupational noise exposure standard for general industry are posted at applicable plants.
• Oversee the Hearing Conservation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, and Hot Work programs.
• Address other safety requirements established by law or corporate policy.
