Disability Support Worker – Complex & High-Intensity Support
Chatswood NSW 2067 | 1:1 Support | Active Night Shifts

Discover Nursing Australia is looking for experienced and reliable Disability Support Workers to provide 1:1 complex support to a participant in Chatswood.

This is an important role suited to a support worker who has experience with complex physical and high-intensity support needs and is confident working independently during active overnight shifts.
We are looking for workers who are calm, attentive and confident in emergency situations, with the ability to recognise changes in a participant's condition and respond promptly and appropriately.

The Role
The participant requires comprehensive support throughout the night, including personal care, enteral feeding, respiratory supports, seizure management and ongoing monitoring.

Active Night Shift:
5:45 pm – 6:30 am

Your responsibilities may include:
  • Oral suctioning.
  • PEG feeding and enteral nutrition support.
  • Administration of medication via PEG in accordance with the participant's medication plan.
  • Seizure monitoring and management.
  • Following seizure and emergency management plans.
  • Cough assist.
  • Nebuliser support.
  • Chest physiotherapy.
  • Positioning and regular repositioning.
  • Personal care and comfort support.
  • Monitoring respiratory status and general wellbeing.
  • Recognising and escalating changes in the participant's condition.
  • Maintaining accurate support documentation and progress notes.
  • Following clinical care plans and established protocols.
  • Working collaboratively with the participant's family and clinical team.

Emergency Response:
Being able to remain calm and organised during an emergency is essential for this role.
Workers must be confident in following the participant's individual emergency and clinical management plans, including:
  • Recognising signs of deterioration or seizure activity.
  • Responding promptly to changes in the participant's condition.
  • Accessing and administering authorised emergency medication where required and in accordance with the participant's medication plan.
  • Contacting 000 when clinically indicated.
  • Communicating clear and accurate information to emergency services.
  • Having relevant equipment, medication and information ready for emergency responders.
  • Maintaining the safety of the participant and others while awaiting assistance.

About You:

  • Experienced with complex disability supports.
  • Comfortable working active overnight shifts.
  • Able to follow detailed clinical and emergency management plans.
  • Able to recognise when a situation requires escalation.
  • Confident working independently and using appropriate initiative.
  • Comfortable working closely with family members.
  • Committed to providing consistent and safe 1:1 support.

Previous hands-on experience supporting a participant with PEG feeding, suctioning, seizures and respiratory supports will be highly regarded.

What You'll Need:
  • Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Previous experience providing complex or high-intensity disability support.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • National Police Check.
  • Current First Aid and CPR.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
  • Australian working rights.
  • ABN or willingness to obtain one.
Relevant high-intensity support training and competencies are highly regarded.
