Sales Administrator | Near Penrith, Cumbria | Circa £25,500 | Flexible Hours and Days
Do you like being the person customers know they can rely on? Would you enjoy a varied sales admin role in a business that genuinely cares about it's employees and real team work exists?
Our client is a well-established business around 10 miles outside Penrith. They act as distributor and agent for a number of well-known brands. They have a strong reputation with customers and staff alike, a loyal customer base that has been with them for years, and a mix of long-serving people and newer recruits as the business has grown. It's a friendly, open-plan office, and it's the kind of place people stay.
You'll join a small sales office team of five, looking after customer accounts from first enquiry through to payment. The heart of the job is order processing, keeping things accurate and moving. Around that you'll give product advice, sort out despatch queries and keep the accounts in good order. Just to be clear, there are no sales targets and no cold calling involved - this is a pure support role.
The Role
Orders and customers
This is the biggest part of your day. You'll be the first point of contact for customers, many of whom have dealt with the business for years.
- Processing customer orders accurately, including keying on forward orders
- Preparing quotations
- Answering incoming calls and emails, and dealing with enquiries properly first time
- Solving account problems, such as despatch queries, and seeing them through to the end
- Handling new account enquiries promptly
Accounts and credit control
This runs alongside the orders as part of the everyday job. Full training is provided, and it's straightforward once you know the process.
- Contacting customers when an order would take them over their credit limit
- Reminding customers when a payment has gone beyond terms
- Keeping customer accounts up to date
Product knowledge
You don't need to arrive knowing the products. Full training is provided, and you'll build your knowledge as you go.
- Learning the product range, including technical specifications and how products are used
- Advising customers on product selection and giving technical information where it's needed
Supporting the team
You'll be part of a team that pulls together.
- Staying aware of any sales campaigns and supporting the reps if they need a hand
- Helping out across the brands the business represents, and in other areas when needed
What You'll Bring
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence to have a polite conversation about credit limits or overdue payments
- Strong administration skills with real attention to detail, especially when keying orders
- Good organisation, and an understanding of why following process matters
- Confidence using computers and IT systems
- A self-motivated, proactive approach
- You enjoy working as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Previous experience in sales administration, order processing, customer service or credit control would be an advantage, but isn't essential
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle, due to the location
