Description
The Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI) is currently seeking a Regional Engagement Strategist who is an ambassador from OMSI to a specific community within Eastern Oregon. They will work on strengthening and building partnerships within the region, as well as creating and delivering engaging science-based programming. The position is designed to add to the science learning opportunities that a community has access to, resulting in the enrichment of available STEAM offerings.
What You Will Do:
Performing the following will involve driving to various locations within Eastern Oregon:
Regional Education:
- Develops and modifies OMSI STEAM programming that engages school audiences, families, and the general public while considering the culture of the region;
- Collaborates with area partners to co-develop and deliver joint programming;
- Delivers and presents OMSI Statewide Engagement programs in an engaging and enthusiastic manner that actively integrates diversity, equity, access, and inclusion across their work.
- Works with local partners to help expand programming capacity that directly serves the local community.
Regional Partner Engagement:
- Establishes and maintains OMSI partnerships within assigned region;
- Serves as a liaison between assigned region and OMSI to strategize and coordinate opportunities to strengthen and expand partnerships; and create more opportunities for the assigned region.
- Collaborates with area partners to ensure regional community engagement.
OMSI Community Involvement:
- Contributes to the creation and refinement of the OMSI Statewide Engagement programming budget;
- Works closely with area partners and the Senior Director of Statewide and Community Engagement to create and maintain an engagement strategy for the region;
- Actively contributes to and advances OMSI's goals and objectives through ongoing engagement in education best practices, DEI, scientific knowledge, and safety/operational efficiency practices;
- Participates in staff education initiatives and/or museum projects in support of OMSI's Equity Action Framework (EAF) and the OMSI Learning Experiences Framework.
What We Are Looking For:
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree;
- Minimum of 2 years' experience with the following:
- Examples of developing, synthesizing, and delivering educational content to diverse audiences, with an emphasis on educational programming for K-12th graders;
- Examples of effective classroom management and time management capabilities;
- Experience working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and talents in an informal/formal education work environment, with an emphasis on working with students, families, and colleagues of color.
- Examples of responsible independent work and/or minimal supervision in the coordination of an organization's programming, including managing/coordinating events, programs, and/or learning experiences.
- Examples of centering equity and access, with an emphasis on active participation in conversations and strategy development that eliminate barriers;
- Examples of effective communication with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in a work environment, as well as fostering strong and lasting community partnerships and relationships.
- Demonstrated and excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on fostering strong community partner relationships and student and teacher belonging;
- Developed communication skills, with an emphasis on presentation and public speaking;
- Ability to work independently, with an emphasis on self-guided time and task prioritization, as well as conducting their work with initiative and curiosity;
- Comfortable leading groups of students and adults both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions;
- Strong classroom and student management skills - specifically centered around positive behavior management
- Positive attitude and approaches that inspire collaboration and partnership opportunities between regional community partners and OMSI;
- Valid driver's license, including meeting OMSI's driving standards, which requires completing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check;
- Must have a reliable vehicle to drive to locations within assigned region.
- Current Adult and Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications:
- If not licensed, training can be provided at no cost for selected candidates as part of the onboarding process.
