Job Description:

We are seeking a highly organized and knowledgeable Librarian to join our team in Cape Town, South Africa. As a Librarian, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our library collection, as well as assisting students and faculty with research and reference needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive library collection, including books, journals, and electronic resources
• Organize and classify materials according to the Dewey Decimal System or other classification systems
• Assist students and faculty with research and reference inquiries
• Provide instruction and guidance on how to use library resources effectively
• Manage library circulation, including checking out and returning materials
• Maintain accurate records of library materials and transactions
• Plan and coordinate library events and programs, such as book clubs and author visits
• Evaluate and select new materials to add to the library collection
• Collaborate with teachers and faculty to integrate library resources into classroom instruction
• Stay current on industry trends and developments in library science
• Train and supervise library assistants and volunteers
• Ensure the library is clean, organized, and welcoming for all users

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related field
• Previous experience working in a library setting
• Strong knowledge of library cataloging and classification systems
• Familiarity with electronic resources and library databases
• Excellent research and reference skills
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and library software
• Knowledge of South African educational materials and resources is a plus
