OVERVIEW:

We currently have an opening for a Payroll Specialist to join our Payroll and Human Resources team. In this role, you will play a critical part in delivering an accurate, timely, and seamless payroll experience for employees across Alberta Blue Cross®. You will coordinate payroll preparation activities, maintain and optimize payroll systems, and provide expert support to ensure compliance, operational excellence, and a positive employee experience.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Manage the end-to-end processing of bi-weekly payroll, including data entry, validation, calculations, balancing, transmission, and the administration of employee-related payments such as terminations, retirements, and leaves of absence.
• Prepare payroll reconciliations, statutory filings, working papers, and supporting documentation for regulatory reporting, financial reporting, and internal and external audit requirements.
• Ensure payroll activities are completed in compliance with applicable legislation, company policies, internal controls, and reporting requirements.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, providing support and guidance to employees, leaders, and Human Resources.
• Provide support for the Workday Payroll including reporting, data validation, testing, upgrades, and the implementation of system enhancements and new functionality.
• Administer pension-related payroll activities, ensuring the accuracy of deductions, contributions, earnings, service reporting, adjustments, and related remittances.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll processes through automation, workflow enhancements, system optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records while supporting cross-training, special projects, and other team priorities as required.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

• Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, Payroll Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive payroll experience, supported by strong knowledge of payroll legislation, employment standards, taxable benefits, and statutory reporting requirements.
• Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation, or progress toward completion, is preferred.
• Experience with Workday Payroll, including reporting, testing, data validation, and system support, is an asset.
• Knowledge of pension administration, including the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, coupled with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and organizational information.
