Job Scope

High-level purpose of function

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing,  retrofitting and implementing electrical systems for high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) power distribution within the manufacturing facility. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient electrical infrastructure to support production operations and facility utilities.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

Design & Development

  • Prepare and update detailed electrical design drawings, schematics, and specifications for HV and LV power distribution systems.
  • Develop layouts for switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and cable routing.
  • Ensure compliance with international and local electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, EN).

Documentation & Records

  • Update and maintain all electrical documentation and drawings for the current facility.
  • Ensure as-built drawings are accurate and reflect any modifications or upgrades.
  • Maintain a structured archive of electrical documentation for audits and future reference.

Project Execution & maintenance

  • Collaborate with project managers, maintenance manager and contractors during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Contribute to cost estimation for electrical design and installation projects
  • Review and approve electrical design documents from external engineering partners.
  • Conduct load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination studies.

Safety & Compliance

  • Implement designs that adhere to safety regulations and company standards.
  • Support LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures and electrical safety audits.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for energy efficiency and system optimisation.
  • Integrate renewable energy sources or backup systems where applicable.

Requirements

Educational background and previous experience required for the role

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical design for industrial or manufacturing facilities.
  • Proven experience with HV (up to 33kV and more) and LV distribution systems

Specific skills

  • Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
  • Knowledge of power system analysis tools (ETAP or similar).
  • Strong understanding of IEC/IEEE standards and local regulations.
  • Familiarity with protective relays, switchgear, and transformer specifications.
  • Ability to manage and maintain technical documentation accurately.
