ABOUT US

Rockhurst High is a Jesuit Catholic, college preparatory school with an enrollment of approximately 900 male students. Founded in 1910, the school strives to serve an economically, socially and geographically diverse student population within the Kansas City metropolitan area. Academic excellence is a trademark of the school as well as a diverse array of successful co-curricular activities and teams.

 

PURPOSE:

Working under the supervision of the Facilities Director and the Facilities Supervisor, the Groundskeeper will work in all phases of grounds keeping and maintenance meeting the needs and objectives of both the maintenance department and Rockhurst High School.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform regular groundskeeping services including, but not limited to mowing, edging, trimming, weed control, fertilization, trimming and pruning.
• Perform regular trash and debris pick up across campus.
• Assist with all aspects of stadium and sports field care for the purpose of ensuring that the fields and facilities are safe and aesthetically pleasing.
• Assist with the preparation of the grounds for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies, athletic events and other activities.
• Monitor, maintain, and safely operate all equipment, vehicles, tools and groundskeeping equipment.
• Promptly report all incidents of damage, vandalism, or unsafe/unhealthy conditions to the supervisor.
• Perform snow and ice removal services for the purpose of providing safe campus walkways and roadways.
• Assist with event set up and tear down.
• Assist with other related duties and maintenance tasks as assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the employee’s skill level.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of basic landscaping, turf care, and grounds maintenance techniques
• Ability to safely operate hand tools and power equipment, mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, and tractors.
• Understanding of proper use and handling of fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals
• Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills for performing routine equipment maintenance
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, snow)perform job.
• Ability to abide by safety procedures in order to maintain a safe working environment for students, visitors and employees.
• Ability to comply with all health, safety and department guidelines, including the required use of all protective gear, equipment and clothing.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position which includes significant lifting (50 lbs or more), carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching and climbing.
• Ability to work under in varying weather conditions
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe, attractive campus.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or the equivalent required.
• Must have a valid driver license.
• 2+ years of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or facility maintenance preferred
• Experience operating and maintaining lawn and grounds equipment (mowers, trimmers, edgers, snow blowers, etc.)

This is a 12-month position (40 hours/week) typically scheduled 7 am – 3:30 Monday - Friday.  Occasional evenings and weekends will be required.
