Description
We are seeking a highly skilled VDC QC (Virtual Design & Construction Quality Control) Coordinator to join our team in the fabrication industry. This role bridges the gap between Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) processes and Quality Control (QC) to ensure that fabrication models, shop drawings, and field installations meet project specifications and industry standards. The ideal candidate has expertise in 3D modeling, quality assurance, and fabrication processes to drive efficiency and accuracy in steel and metal fabrication projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Virtual Design & Coordination (VDC):
- Develop and review 3D models and shop drawings using software like Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.
- Coordinate fabrication models with engineers, project managers, and field teams.
- Assist in clash detection and resolution to prevent fabrication errors.
- Ensure BIM/VDC integration aligns with company standards and project requirements.
Quality Control (QC):
- Conduct model-based quality checks to ensure shop drawings comply with structural requirements.
- Verify that fabricated components match model specifications and contract documents.
- Collaborate with the welding inspectors, project managers, and shop personnel to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain QA/QC documentation for audits and compliance reporting.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
- Identify design inconsistencies, missing information, or fabrication challenges before production.
- Implement best practices in model accuracy and constructability reviews.
- Work with fabricators, engineers, and drafters to improve model accuracy and reduce errors.
- Ensure compliance with AISC, AWS, and project-specific standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) or Quality Control (QC) in the fabrication industry.
- Proficiency in Tekla, AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or other 3D modeling software.
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication, welding, and detailing standards.
- Experience with quality control processes, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Familiarity with AISC, AWS, and industry regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to work across multiple departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in structural steel fabrication, modular construction, or metal manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles to improve workflows.
- Certifications such as AWS CWI, AISC Quality Certification, or BIM/VDC-related credentials.
