YOUR NEW ROLE

As PRISM transforms product enablement and regulatory compliance across Markets, we are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture, design and engineering of modern, scalable solutions that will replace legacy platforms and establish the future state for product onboarding and servicing. PRISM is NAB's strategic platform for product and regulatory integrated sales management, designed to automate manual processes, reduce operational risk, and deliver seamless digital experiences through deep integration with enterprise capabilities. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys solving complex business and technology challenges, influences engineering direction across multiple teams, and collaborates with business, product, architecture and engineering stakeholders to build secure, resilient and scalable solutions that support NAB's long-term growth ambitions.

o    Provide technical leadership for the design, delivery and evolution of the PRISM platform, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, resilient and aligned to NAB architecture standards.

o    Lead architecture, design and hands-on engineering activities across multiple squads, including design reviews, code reviews and complex technical problem solving.

o    Drive the modernisation of legacy product enablement and onboarding capabilities, supporting the decommissioning of Client Centre and delivery of strategic business outcomes.

o    Design and deliver enterprise integrations, APIs and workflow automation capabilities that improve straight-through processing and reduce operational risk.

o    Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, security, compliance, auditability and operational supportability requirements.

o    Establish and promote engineering standards, best practices and modern software engineering disciplines, including CI/CD, test automation and observability.

o    Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Engineers and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.

o    Identify and mitigate technical, operational and delivery risks while supporting long-term platform sustainability and simplification.

o    Mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement across the domain.

o    Act as the senior technical authority for PRISM, influencing technology decisions and ensuring alignment with the broader Sales and Distribution technology strategy

 

What You'll Bring

o    15+ years experience in Java technologies with 5+ years of experience as Enterprise Architect on Java techstack (Java 8 or greater), ideally in Banking or Finance.

o    Deep Java, Kubernetes, Postgres and public cloud (AWS or Azure) experience, delivering greenfield systems end to end.

o    Experience with high-volume, fault-tolerant applications

o    Extensive knowledge of SQL and RDBMS like PostgreSQL etc

o    Java / Spring Boot

o    Kafka or event-driven architecture

o    API design to enterprise standards — REST, contract-first, versioning.

o    Event-driven microservices; service boundary decomposition, Kafka topic and partition design, event schema versioning, idempotent consumers and delivery semantics, orchestration engines for long-running stateful workflows.

o    CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps

o    Jenkins/Artifactory experience

o    Observability and operational telemetry

o    Security and regulatory control design

o    Domain-driven design

o    Legacy modernisation and migration experience

o    Workflow and business process automation

o    Financial services or regulated industry experience

 

Qualification Requirements

Tertiary qualification in technology related degree
