CDL A Regional Container Driver - Home Weekly

Your week starts at the same time every week, because you chose it. You run intermodal containers across the Midwest in a newer automatic truck, mostly drop and hook. Then come your 2 days off in a row, on the days you picked. Drivers in the Detroit area average $1,654 a week doing it, with a $10,000 sign-on bonus to start.

How the Week Goes

• Start: the same start time every week, set by you
• On the Road: containers across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Kentucky
• At the Customer: about 75% drop and hook
• The Miles: 1,800 to 2,800 per week, with most drivers around 2,200
• Days Off: 2 in a row, your choice, except Saturday and Sunday together
• Weekends: part of the job, with a $150 weekly bonus for it

What It Pays

• $1,654 weekly average, about $86,000 a year
• $10,000 sign-on bonus, first payment after your first dispatch (eligibility terms apply)
• $0.64 per mile to start, on Rand McNally miles
• $65 per live load or unload, $35 per drop and hook
• $20 to $25 per hour detention after the first hour
• $25 per hazmat load, $30 per reefer load
• $250 per day during 1 to 2 weeks of training, with a hotel stay

Requirements

• 21 or older with a valid Class A CDL
• Verifiable tractor-trailer experience: 3 months in the last 6 with one carrier, 6 months in the last 12, or 12 months in the last 5 years
• Hazmat within 90 days of hire
• No careless or reckless driving and no more than 2 moving violations in 3 years
• No major preventable accidents in 3 years and no DUI/DWI in 5 years
• Must pass hair and urine drug testing, with no failed drug or alcohol test in the last 5 years
