LEAD THE FUTURE OF HEART RHYTHM CARE

Division Chief of Cardiac Electrophysiology and System Lead, Electrophysiology Services

The West Virginia University School of Medicine and WVU Heart & Vascular Institute invite applications and nominations for Division Chief of Cardiac Electrophysiology and System Lead for Electrophysiology Services. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished academic electrophysiologist to set the strategic direction for a comprehensive and growing program serving West Virginia and the broader Appalachian region.

The Division Chief will lead the clinical, academic, research, and operational missions of cardiac electrophysiology at WVU Medicine’s flagship academic medical center in Morgantown while guiding the development and integration of electrophysiology services across the health system. The successful candidate will join a collaborative cardiovascular leadership team and have the institutional support to recruit faculty, expand advanced clinical programs, train the next generation of clinicians, strengthen regional referral relationships, and shape the next phase of growth for heart rhythm care across the region.

The Opportunity

  • A high-volume, comprehensive electrophysiology program with advanced capabilities in atrial and ventricular arrhythmia ablation, pulsed field ablation, cardiac implantable electronic devices, leadless pacing, physiologic pacing, cardiac resynchronization therapy, lead management and extraction, and multidisciplinary surgical arrhythmia care
  • West Virginia’s only dedicated multidisciplinary Center for Atrial Fibrillation, bringing together medical, catheter-based, and surgical treatment options
  • An ACGME-accredited, two-year Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship with one fellow entering annually and historically strong GME environment
  • An expanding system-wide network of electrophysiology and outreach services serving communities across West Virginia and the surrounding region
  • Close collaboration with cardiac surgery, structural heart, advanced heart failure, cardiovascular imaging, interventional cardiology, and cardiovascular critical care
  • Opportunities to grow clinical trials, investigator-initiated research, quality-improvement programs, and academic scholarship
  • A leadership platform within a rapidly growing, integrated academic health system committed to expanding access to advanced cardiovascular care

Leadership Scope

  • Establish and execute a unified strategic vision for cardiac electrophysiology across WVU Medicine
  • Lead the clinical and administrative operations of the academic electrophysiology program in Morgantown and provide system-wide leadership for quality, access, growth, and clinical standards
  • Recruit, mentor, develop and retain electrophysiology faculty and advanced practice clinicians
  • Advance programs in atrial fibrillation, complex ablation, device therapy, lead management and extraction, and other emerging areas of electrophysiology
  • Standardize care pathways, quality measures, and operational practices across the system while promoting excellent outcomes and patient experience
  • Develop regional outreach, referral relationships, and new models of care that expand access to specialized arrhythmia services
  • Partner with cardiovascular and health-system leaders on strategic planning, capital priorities, resource allocation, and program development
  • Provide academic leadership for the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship and support the education and professional development of fellows, residents, medical students, and other learners
  • Expand clinical research, industry-sponsored trials, investigator-initiated studies, and scholarly productivity
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture grounded in accountability, professional development, and clinical excellence
  • Maintain an active tertiary-care clinical and procedural electrophysiology practice

Qualifications

  • An M.D., D.O., or equivalent medical degree
  • Completion of accredited fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology
  • Board certification in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology
  • Eligibility for an unrestricted state medical license
  • Academic accomplishments supporting appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • A record of clinical excellence, professional integrity, and collaborative leadership
  • Demonstrated experience in faculty mentorship, program development, quality improvement, clinical operations, or service-line growth
  • A commitment to graduate medical education, research, and the academic mission

Leadership experience within an academic medical center, integrated health system, or multi-site electrophysiology program is strongly preferred. Experience leading fellowship education, clinical research, regional program development, or complex operational growth will be highly valued.

Academic Appointment and Support

Academic rank and tenure status will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. WVU offers a competitive compensation package that includes leadership support, comprehensive benefits, relocation assistance, continuing medical education support, and resources for program development and academic advancement.
