About the Role
The Human Resources Lead provides guidance for the organization's human resources functions while supporting a workplace culture grounded in the values, traditions, and priorities.
Working closely with the Human Resources Coordinator, Managers, and employees, the Human Resources Lead is responsible for recruitment, employee relations, policy development, performance management, learning and development, and organizational initiatives that promote employee engagement and wellbeing. The Human Resources Lead serves as a trusted advisor to management and staff and helps ensure HR practices are culturally responsive, equitable, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Strategy
- Develop and implement Hunam Resource strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Partner with Senior Management and Managers to support workforce planning and organizational development.
- Provide guidance and coaching to Managers on Human Resources best practices and employee relations matters.
- Lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement, retention, and workplace culture.
Recruitment, Onboarding, and Retention
- Assist Managers with recruitment and selection processes.
- Support the Human Resources Coordinator in coordinating recruitment activities, job postings, candidate screening, and onboarding.
- Develop strategies to attract, retain, and develop qualified employees, with a focus on Indigenous recruitment and workforce development.
- Ensure orientation programs provide employees with an understanding of organizational values, culture, and expectations.
Employee and Labour Relations
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee concerns and workplace issues.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees on workplace issues, performance concerns, and conflict resolution.
- Support investigations, disciplinary processes, and employee accommodation requests.
- Promote positive employee relations and effective communication throughout the organization.
- Assist managers in addressing employee concerns in a fair, respectful, and timely manner.
Performance Management and Employee Development
- Oversee performance management processes and support managers with employee coaching and development plans.
- Coordinate training, professional development, and succession planning initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen employee engagement, leadership development, and retention.
Policy Development and Compliance
- Develop, review, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment, human rights, privacy, and occupational health and safety legislation.
- Monitor legislative changes and recommend policy or program updates as required.
- Promote best practices in human resources management throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Education
- Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Indigenous Governance, or a related field.
- CHRP, or equivalent professional designation is considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive human resources experience.
- Experience in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and policy development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of employment legislation under the Canada Labor Code, human rights legislation, occupational health and safety requirements, and HR best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution abilities.
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and HR information systems particularly BambooHR.
