As a GIS Developer within Enterprise Technology, this role contributes to that mission by executing defined projects, products, and services that advance team-level goals; designing, building, and maintaining enterprise solutions across business-critical IT systems using an internal open-source, automation-first approach; and supporting engineers in delivering highly available, reliable services to the ASU community.
As with all members of the Enterprise Technology team, this role carries core responsibilities, including fostering a sense of belonging and cultivating a culture that is relational, visionary, and empowering. Salary Range: $78,000 - $90,000; depending on experience
Essential Duties
Works primarily within the scope of well-defined workstreams with high-level guidance from more senior engineers
Effectively collaborates to get work done

Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation (including weekends and holidays as needed, as well as covering maintenance windows after hours) within the flexibility of a team
Translates requirements into technical solutions
Develops customized web applications, web services, mobile, and enterprise solutions
Develops and maintains geoprocessing workflows and GIS services using Esri ArcGIS technologies.
Administers, develops, and supports the University's enterprise mapping system, solutions and associated integrations.
Automates GIS workflows and administrative processes using Python, ArcGIS APIs, or other appropriate scripting and development technologies.
Conducts performance, unit, system, integration, and quality assurance testing of applications
Assist with processing, quality control, and management of drone-derived imagery, point clouds, and 3D datasets, integrating outputs into GIS platforms and digital twin environments to support planning, operations, and asset management.
Assists with applying GeoAI, machine learning, and automated geospatial analysis techniques to extract features, classify assets, detect change, and improve spatial data processing workflows.
Upgrades and migrates existing GIS applications, services, and platform components to supported versions and current system architectures.
Works with other ET chapters to ensure org health and security of the platform
Keeps up-to-date with new platform features and functionality
Adheres to, participates in and implements technical governance set forth by platform teams
Manages and monitors all installed systems and infrastructure
Provides 2nd and 3rd-level support
Troubleshoot application, GIS platform, database, integration, and infrastructure issues in collaboration with other ET teams and vendors.
Leverage AI in routine tasks and contribute ideas for using AI to improve the unit’s efficiency and overall performance.
Take responsibility for fostering a positive culture, upholding organizational values, and championing engagement in all its forms.
Collaborate across teams and actively participate in ET/ASU events and programs.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with security standards, practices, and controls frameworks
Experience with repo management tools and practices (GitHub, BitBucket, etc.)
Experience developing or automating GIS workflows using Python, ArcPy, ArcGIS API for Python, REST APIs, or comparable technologies.
Experience developing and supporting solutions within the Esri ArcGIS ecosystem, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server/Portal, ArcGIS Pro, GIS web services, and enterprise geodatabases.
Knowledge of GIS technologies, relational databases and geodatabase management, analysis and modeling
Demonstrated ability to model empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence.

Technical tools
Experience/certifications for public cloud (primarily AWS, but also Azure and Google Cloud)
Experience with Linux and/or Windows OS, including patch management and system maintenance
Demonstrable scripting skills (i.e., Bash/Ksh, Powershell, Perl, Python, Ruby)
Familiarity with accessibility design principles
Experience modeling relational and non-relational data structures utilizing one or more of the following: PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, GIS, Neptune, and other semi-structured data formats
Knowledge of mobile and embedded systems software design (iOS, Android and Arduino)
Experience and familiarity with the essentials of testing
Agile experience
Experience with Jira and Confluence
Familiarity with secure secrets management using Hashicorp Vault and AWS Secrets Manager
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting, subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.
