Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Technician will provide technical, operational, and administrative support to the laboratory of Dr. Sanja Novak, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology. This position supports laboratory research activities with a primary focus on animal experimentation, mouse colony management, surgical procedures, bone and cartilage analysis, regulatory compliance, laboratory organization, and training.Working collaboratively with the Principal Investigator and other laboratory personnel, the Research Technician will help ensure research activities are conducted consistently, efficiently, and in accordance with established laboratory procedures, institutional requirements, and applicable regulations governing animal research.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. PLUS experience with animal experimentation and animal surgical procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and experience with reference management software.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate research records and documentation.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a laboratory and research environment.
Ability to follow established research protocols, safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities
Support animal experimentation, mouse colony maintenance, animal databases, and coordination of animal care activities.
Perform animal surgical procedures and technical analyses of bone and cartilage using established laboratory and histomorphometric methods.
Assist with developing and maintaining Animal Use Protocols (AUPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), surgical protocols, and other research documentation.
Support regulatory compliance, laboratory inspections, accurate recordkeeping, and adherence to institutional and federal animal research requirements.
Train and provide technical guidance to laboratory personnel, fellows, and students on animal procedures, surgical techniques, and research protocols.
Coordinate laboratory operations, including supply ordering, inventory, research documentation, and communication with University Animal Laboratory personnel.
Coordinate laboratory and research meetings, including agendas, minutes, action items, and follow-up activities.
Support multiple research projects while ensuring accuracy, consistent protocols, effective communication, and adherence to established quality standards.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of laboratory and departmental research activities.
