Veterinary Medicine | Veterinary Preventive MedicinePOSITION OBJECTIVE (Enter a short statement that identifies the objective of the position)
Supports research, outreach, and field activities related to ticks and other emerging arthropod and vector-borne disease threats in Ohio.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Enter a bulleted listing of all essential functions)
· Evaluates the efficacy of the Vectech IDX device for automated tick identification and prepares a report summarizing the findings.
· Processes tick specimens, maintains project records, and collects and summarizes evaluation data.
· Develops and distributes tick outreach kits and assists with training OSU Extension agents in their use.
· Conducts on-site investigations of suspected emerging arthropod or vector-borne disease threats on Ohio agricultural properties.
· Coordinates with the Principal Investigator, Extension personnel, veterinarians, agricultural stakeholders, and other project partners.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Enter a bulleted listing of all non-essential functions)
· Assists with general laboratory organization, supply inventory, and preparation of equipment and materials.
· Participates in laboratory meetings, professional development activities, and relevant outreach events.
· Performs additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a related field.
- · Strong organizational and communication skills.
- · Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- · Ability to travel throughout Ohio and work outdoors in varying conditions.
- · Valid driver’s license.

- Fieldwork experience.
- Experience accurately identifying arthropod vectors
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Standard office environment.
- Fieldwork takes place on private residential properties in both urban and rural areas of Ohio.
- Fieldwork may occur in the months of April through August
- Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is expected to be low to moderate.
- Noise level is expected to be low to moderate.
Physical activities:
- Able to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
- Able to move about for several hours and/or walk for up to five miles in a day, and carry up to 30 lbs for short distances.

Dr. Risa Pesapane’s Parasite and Pathogen Ecology (PPE) Lab focuses on the impact of Acari on human and animal health, bite prevention and control, and the implications of parasitism for population management and conservation.
Target Salary Range: $15.15 - $19.79 per hour; commensurate with experience, internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
