Position Summary
Mountains Community Hospital is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Central Supply Technician to support the availability, organization, accuracy, and timely distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and materials throughout the hospital.
The Central Supply Technician plays an important role in supporting safe and effective patient care by maintaining appropriate inventory levels, receiving and stocking supplies, monitoring expiration dates, preparing and distributing departmental orders, maintaining accurate inventory records, and assisting with purchasing and supply chain activities.
This position works closely with the Materials Manager, Purchasing Coordinator, clinical departments, vendors, and hospital personnel to ensure essential supplies and equipment are available when needed.
Schedule & Availability
- This position requires the ability to work at least one scheduled day each weekend (Saturday or Sunday).
- Additional weekend, holiday, or on-call coverage may be required based on department needs.
- Schedule may vary based on operational and patient care requirements.
What You'll Do
Inventory Management
- Maintain established Pre-Arranged Requirement (PAR) levels for medical supplies and equipment.
- Monitor inventory levels and identify shortages, excess inventory, discontinued products, and other supply concerns.
- Conduct routine inventory counts and assist with periodic physical inventories.
- Maintain accurate inventory records in applicable electronic systems.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and report significant variances to the Materials Manager.
- Rotate inventory according to established procedures.
- Monitor expiration dates and remove expired or compromised products from available inventory.
- Maintain supplies in a clean, organized, and accessible manner.
- Store supplies according to manufacturer instructions, hospital requirements, and applicable standards.
Receiving & Distribution
- Receive, inspect, verify, and appropriately store incoming supplies and equipment.
- Compare shipments against purchase orders and packing documentation and report discrepancies.
- Prepare and distribute departmental supply orders accurately and timely.
- Deliver supplies and equipment to hospital departments as needed.
- Respond promptly to urgent supply requests while maintaining appropriate inventory controls.
- Assist with maintaining clean and orderly supply storage areas.
Purchasing & Supply Chain Support
- Assist the Materials Manager and Purchasing Coordinator with purchasing and supply chain activities.
- Communicate supply shortages, backorders, product concerns, and other issues to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with identifying appropriate substitutes when products are unavailable, as directed.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to receiving, inventory, distribution, and purchasing activities.
- Communicate professionally with vendors and hospital departments.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Follow hospital policies, procedures, infection prevention practices, and safety requirements.
- Maintain supplies and equipment in a manner that supports patient safety and regulatory compliance.
- Report damaged, expired, recalled, or compromised supplies promptly.
- Assist with product recalls and removal of affected products from inventory.
- Protect confidential patient and hospital information.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and department audits as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in healthcare materials management, central supply, inventory, purchasing, warehouse operations, or a related field preferred.
- Previous hospital or healthcare experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to accurately count, document, receive, store, and distribute supplies.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn inventory and purchasing systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical departments, vendors, and coworkers.
- Ability to prioritize multiple requests and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and transport supplies and equipment as required by the position.
- Ability to maintain a professional and service-oriented attitude at all times.
